I just purchased this lens and have been searching the Sigma site for the update information - No luck...
Can you post a link?

Magoo - do you have the USB dock? Have you downloaded Sigma Optimization Pro? www.sigma-global.com/download (external link)
Once installed, run Optimization Pro with lens connected via USB dock and software will check and ask if you want to install latest firmware.

a couple of shots after the upgrade ,it has definitely improved focus speed based on my past usage ,and it also seems to have improved focus accuracy to ,both shots hand held at 600mm and these gulls are moving fast

Thanks for the help! - The dock came with the lens and I have updated the firmware. I have also been watching the rest of the Sigma videos. The lens seems soft from 500-600mm on my 7D II. I have not tried it on my 6D.
The Sigma Focus Adjustment video eludes to the possibility of addressing this. Have you had to make any focus adjustments?

I have read a lot of positive reviews on this lens, but what I am getting so far is just short of acceptable. It may very well be user error. I'll post a few test shots and see if someone can get me headed in the right direction.

I personally haven't made any micro-adjustments, as the shots I've produced so far have been very surprising in sharpness. Post a couple of shots with the exif intact and we'll see if we can sort it out.

o.k its part of the learning curve ,we have all been there . re-attach your dock and go into the C1 OR C2 custom modes use whichever you want to ,your focus limitation lengths are your own choice ,set the focus to main focus point priority (forget the proper name for it ) and set your stabiliser mode to dynamic ,don't forget to save EACH change to the lens settings,if you have chosen C2 leave it set to that in use .the sharpest aperture is f8 though it will also be acceptable wide open .do NOT do any in lens M/A i have used mine on several cameras and have yet to find one where its not spot on.
also are you trying to achieve TO MUCH REACH ,with lenses of this length its easy to overreach the lens and forget that atmospherics come into play over long distances ,try for frame filling shots as opposed to using it like a mt palomar telescope .its a learning curve mine nearly got sold on when i first got it ,now its my go to lens

Thanks for the suggestion! - I set the C1 custom mode as per your advice and as soon as the weather improves I will take and post some test shots. I bought this lens for a specific purpose - I shoot motorsports and have been using a 500L and/or a 400 2.8. The problem with using primes is that too often an "event" occurs closer than expected and I am overglassed. The Sigma should help solve this as long as I can obtain a sharp image at around 500mm.

I am trying to work out the TC compatibility situation of this lens.
(I am aware of the new Sigma TC-1401 1.4TC)

So far my experience has been:

7D2:
Canon 1.4TCIII I get "MF" displayed.
Canon 1.4TCII AF works.

1D4:
AF works with both Canon 1.4TCIII and 1.4TCII.

From this thread I have learned:
1D3 with Kenko 1.4x dgx HD results in all points AF.
