Looks like you’ve been bitten by the Zeiss bug. First the 50 MP, and now this. :-)

Well...lol... I made the mistake (best decision ever) to buy the Zeiss 135mm F/2 and that was, "all she wrote" as the saying goes. The 135mm is by far the best glass I've shot to date. The new(used) 50MP is very nice and probably the best 50mm I've shot. The 100MP, from the shots I've seen around the Internet, it looks to be a winner as well. So yes... I've have the Zeiss bug.

Hatch :)

Dumbest thing I have ever done: get caught up in the Zeiss Apo Sonnar 2/135mm hype and sold my MP 2/100mm.
After quite some time with the Apo Sonnar, I now feel the Makro Planar 2/100 is a better lens: better micro contrast, better bokeh, more usable fl (for what I shoot). It has a little CA and might not test as sharp in the lab, but the 2/100's CA is pud-easy to correct and the sharpness is 100% adequate.

For now, I am trying out Tamron's newest edition of their 90mm macro as a cheaper alternative. So far I love it, but the bokeh can't touch the Makro Planar.

I'm picking up the lens today... I think the 135 t* is the best glass I've shot to date... so... if the 100MP is close or better... it's going to make me :)

Good to hear the CA on the 100MP is manageable. As I mentioned above, as long as it is less than the Canon 85L... it will work for me.

Many believe that "best glass" = sharpest glass, and if that is what you think then the 135mm will remain as the best glass you have ever shot. But here is the trouble with the 135mm in my view: it lacks overall contrast. I can take a shot with the 135mm and the same shot again with the 70-200mm f/4L IS and the 135mm will be sharper, but the 70-200mm will render more contrast. The overall lack of overall contrast is why I don't love the 135mm any more, and it is the main differentiator, in my opinion, between the Otus 55mm, which I own, and the 135mm. In that regard the 135mm is not the equal of the Otus.

Imo the 2/100 has a wonderful rendering quality to it - a genuine personality that the 135mm lacks. But, you are going to need to do a little CA cleanup with its images; it's no apochromatic lens.

Good information to know. I'll give the 100MP a shot for sure and see how it compares to the 135mm. I like the focal range of the 135... and I've shot a lot at 100 as well. So... if the 100MP outperforms the 135mm I'll sell it. :) The Otus line... I'm afraid to shoot any of the lenses... well.. my bank account is afraid. LOL I've heard nothing but great things about them.

I'll do some testing when I pick up the 100MP this afternoon through the weekend and compare shots... I'll post some thoughts when I've spent some time with them.

thanks for your insight/post.

Well.... the 100MP arrived and I've taken a few dozen shots with it. So... now it has me questioning if I should hang on to the Zeiss 135mm F/2? The only minor negative I can come up with is the CA. I was able to produce it in a couple of shots wide open. But... that being said.... LR wipes it out with a couple of clicks.

The loss of 35mm isn't an issue to me.... the bokeh is great, it's super sharp wide open, it can do 1:2 almost true macro, it's left me scratching my head on what to do. LOL (not a horrible problem to have I suppose)

I'll test them side by side this weekend when I get some free time. But wow... is this a nice lens. I think it's going to be a blast to shoot.

Very nice work.

I'm going to get myself back into photography a little more than a year after selling all my stuff and taking a break - miss it too much. But, I'm toying with the idea of going back to the roots of what I loved about photography in the first place rather than a bunch of expensive zooms - ZE21, ZE50MP and ZE100MP and a 5DII with a MF focus screen...should be able to pick them all up for less than the 5D3/zoom kit I'm also considering. You're making that decision much easier to live with. :)
