Maureen, thanks. We did see some whales, no breaching though. Did not go on a whale watching tour, did the sunset cruise which was great. I used the 70-200 + 2x TC and got some flukes on the cruise. We scheduled our trip on being a good time to take leave, not on what we could see. We will definitely be going back, most likely to other islands to see the difference. Your whale shots are something to aspire to.

Yes, you can always go back. We love the Big Island as much as Maui but there is a lot more diversity there, too.one of the biggest highlights is to do a night dive off of Kona to see the Giant Mantas. If you don't dive, you can snorkel it. National Geographic listed it as one of the top 5 things to do in your lifetime & I heartily agree. It was amazing!!
We have done Lanai'i on a day jaunt (take the ferry over from Lahaina). Oahu is crowded but I think everyone should go once to do 3 things: climb Diamondhead, go to Pearl Harbor & visit Waikiki beach. I have yet to visit Kauai
.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

You absolutely have to go to Kauai. Much more laid back than Oahu. Scenery is amazing.

Yes, I have seen great pictures. One place we visited was more amazing than any of the Hawaiian Islands. It is the island of Moorea, next to Tahiti. Seriously the most beautiful place on the planet. We had a blast there.

We are home but I hardly took any pictures; less than 100 in a week. It was breezy out on the water and we are in a small raft so trying to shoot leaping whales in a rocking boat becomes quite a mission. All the close encounters with a full size breaching whale were viewed by my eyes only. :-)

Here is a quick snap I got of a helicopter flying in to the rainbow on top of the West Maui Mountains and a frolicking humpback calf.

Thanks.

I wanted to go to the Nagaoka fireworks show, but didn't want to deal with crowd.
