80D is here

I am playing with the idea to upgrate from 7d to the 80d
I will surely miss the joystick but other than that i like the spec and hope the DR will be improved

if you don't mind losing center-focus expansion and having a smaller body - I suspect you would be pleased

YES! The 7D is already too big. I prefer SMALLER bodies.

I do like center point expansion and the spot focus
But for slow accurate focus i guess i shall try live view

You speak as if the 80d AF is inadequate. It is definitely very good and very accurate. At least on the 70D from my experience.

He's talking about live view vs. through the viewfinder autofocus...

Comming from the 7d there will be few things i shall miss like the joystick and spot focus that i have used for accurate and small objects
I am sure the 80d has good AF system

Thanks for the news. It looks like there is about a stop more pixel DR at ISO 100 than previous Canons ; not exactly exmor-like, but a good step forward, and the noise character looks excellent, like the 7D2. Pushing the black cloth in the mug as if it were ISO 4000 or so, It looks mostly black with vague hints of color noise, and I can see the individual rows of threads in it.

I just checked out ISO 25,600 read noise and compared it to the 70D and 7D2 on DxOMark, and it seems to be same as the 7D2 at the pixel level, but potentially slightly better at the image level with more pixels.

Looks good to me, 45 point AF, 7 FPS, Intelligent viewfinder and customisation.

I guess I'm old school, but if I wanted video I'd get a video camera. Imagine, take out the video and there is room for extra dslr features.

That argument is very old at this point. Video isn't preventing other features and it doesn't get in your way if you don't want it. In fact video has spawned some interesting sensor designs that have greatly improved live view still shooting, and created some very capable and high IQ inexpensive new lenses.

Agreed that the 70D was quite a good upgrade from 50D.

*Shot movies (if you care about that)
*Superior OVF & LIVE VIEW AF
*Flipout screen & Touchscreen
*Higher resolution and better HIGH ISO performance
