Shot my first pics of the season on March 19th, it was windy, cold with some snow flurries but it did not seem to hamper the players. It was a new park for me, fenced tightly, no good places to shoot from but it still helped to get in some practice.

I almost started a thread like this the other day and got distracted. Here are a few of mine so far. I will say after photographing my son and the other 12 seniors on this team for the last 10+ years I really am trying to capture more of the emotions of the game rather than all action shots.

Nice shots prncfarquad, I took some shots last year of the guys in the dugout that turned out to be very popular with the parents at graduation time. I need to do more of that. I also get emotionally involved at times and miss the good action shots anyway, it's hard to cheer, clap your hands and take photos at the same time:-)
It's about to get real busy with baseball now, look forward to seeing everyone's photos.

Very nice Steve. That looks like that would be a lot of fun to photograph baseball. Pretty cool that your grandson is playing. I will look forward to seeing more baseball pics.:-)

Lower the height of your camera as to the subject. When you photograph individuals in sports you want them to seem grand. You want them so seem to be larger than life. If you photograph them from above YOU are in a position of dominance. THEY should be in the position of dominance. They are an athlete. Athlete's are elite. Your lens should be somewhere between their waist and chest for a large percentage of sports photography. This makes them dominate.

Take a photo of your child/friend/coworker from above the head. Now take one from the waist area. Look at the difference. It is unmistakable.

Strnge, advice taken. The first field I was on for the year is about 1 year old and new to me. It was not photographer friendly. They didn't have a press box and behind home plate, to 1st and 3rd base was elevated 4 feet. I really needed to be on the field inside the fence and will be able to do so on 7 out of 10 ball parks I will be going to where shooting at lower angles will be quite easy.

It is possible to get shots from the stands......like this one, but you have to be as close as possible to the field height as you can and shoot far away. This gives you a perception of being on the field.

So I admit to shooting #17 more than anyone else, he is my high school Grandson for this year. He has pitched two 7 inning games and gave up 6 hits in those 14 innings. He has the stolen base record thus far and second in earned runs for the team.
We are hoping to play above the 48 degree F mark this week and if it doesn't make the players more comfortable it sure will help this old photographer. It has been a cold spring here.
