I'm thinking of purchasing a Surface Book. Has anyone had a chance to check one out?

I checked it out and I have the Surface Pro 3. I decided it wasn't worth the money since I have the Pro 3 but if I didn't, the Book is really nice and works very well. Battery life suffers when your in tablet mode but with the keyboard attached, battery life has been tested to last 12 hours. But it's only testing.

Test shows SP3 gets 6-7 hours and I get 5-6 hours.

What I did like about the Book is that it's very similar to the SP3 and adds that keyboard dock which SP owners.

The Book makes up the poor battery life in tablet mode with a powerful setup but with the keyboard, it makes up the battery life and adds graphics card if you go for that option.

I think it's a great device.

How good something works is better then looks.

That's true. I for one love the power of the Surface Book and the battery life it offers. From what I have read, the SurfaceBook has one of the best battery life out of any laptop out there right now and yet it's a powerhouse and it can be a tablet as well.

The only thing keeping me away is the price point and since my Surface Pro 3 is still functional, I'll keep using it. Maybe next year the Surface books will drop in price and I might pick it up but that's it.

I've been reading how the Surface Book 2 will be coming out with better battery life and the Windows 10 update will help.

I might hold off for that one.

Tablet mode gets about 3.5 hours which is decent considering the power it has. But with the dock, it gets 12 hours which isnt bad at all. The only thing I do want to see is cheaper pricing.

Well sure, I'd fully expect the next version of anything to be better than what it replaced. :) But the question is when. If you're going off rumors, all of the reputable rumor sources are saying no new Surface Pro / Surface Book until 2017. So the question is how long you can wait.

I've owned every Surface Pro and currently own the i7 / 16gb / 512 Surface Book. I originally bought the SP4 and recently traded up to the Book.

I also own a mid-2014 i7 / 16gb / 512 15" rMBP. After a few weeks with the Surface Book I've decided to move Photoshop and Lightroom to it and sell my MBP. It's smaller and lighter, the display is easily just as good if not better than a retina display, and due to the Surface Book's 3:2 aspect ratio Vs the MBP 16:9, the Book actually has a more useful screen even though it's smaller but YMMV on that one.

I also have the Surface Dock both at home and at the office and each is connected to dual displays. So I've been able to consolidate down to a single laptop for both work and personal, and for my needs the Book is a better device than a MBP.

Exactly. I don't bother with rumors. You keep waiting for the next big thing, you will just keep waiting. Buy now and enjoy it. Its not like once the new one comes out, everything stops working.
