Bummer about the Mt-24EX :(

Once I confirmed that the new sensor had on-chip AD conversion I pre-ordered the 80D. Might see it next week.

What difference will that make?

Lower ISO noise and better dynamic range.

Ive had that same repair and no doubt will have it again soon given its my main lens. Equally annoying has been the MT-24EX which is not particularly robust but again i'm a heavy user.

Looks like I ma having the MPE ribbon cable problem, at present I get Err 01 every time at a certain magnification between 1 and 2 (probably the most used range as you try and work in on the magnification on a bug. Presently the lens is OK at other magnifications but I presume it will degrade with use. No obvious mechanical noises yet.

Toby who and how much for the repair?

Ah, OK. I have emailed them for a quote. Annoyingly I used to live a few miles away in Stanmore.

If you remember the cost and repair time do let me know.

Okay I found the invoice dated Oct 2012 (so repair has lasted nearly 6yrs to date)

Replaced power diaphragm unit, fixed barrel, cleaned and tested to standard.
£98.05 inc goodwill deduction.

You may be asked to make a pre payment of nearer £250

Order date was 14/8/12
Invoice date 8/10/12

Good luck

Yes the problem of the ribbon flex involves replacing the aperture assembly I believe.
At the time I had mine repaired parts were in short supply, repairs were taking months and it was rumoured they were discontinuing the lens but as it is readily available new this is clearly no longer the case.
