Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This weeks the theme is Monochromatic. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us your take on Monochromatic

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Monday Sunset and the following Monday by Sunset (Whenever that is for you ). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

This could be fun, especially since the Nik collection is now free. Anyone who wanted Silver Efex Pro and never got it can get it free now. It's still my favorite b/w conversion software.

I may be fascinated with volcanoes, but the name's Lisa.

Shot this chrysanthemum tonight. Took it into PS and used Topaz Impression, Chalk II filter with luminosity overlay and then converted to b/w in Silver Efex Pro. I got the idea after watching a webinar from B&H on flower photography.

All I see is a placeholder with "image failed to load". Haven't had that happen here in a long time. I'll come back later to see if it will load then.

By the way, be aware that if you download and install a Google app (like Chrome, Google Earth or the Nik software bundle), you also get a little gift from Google that they don't tell you about or ask your permission for: the Google Software Updater. It will call home often without you knowing about it. It's also very hard to get rid off. On a Mac you can only do it in Terminal on the command line level.

I can see the image now!
I don't think I would have recognised a flower in it. Very nicely done, Lisa! Isn't it great to experiment?

Nice start, Lisa.
I could see it on my phone this morning, but not now (on my computer).
If I click on the "Image failed to load" box, it opens in a new page. :-)

Lisa, I have a SmugMug account and one of my computers hates it!!
It takes me forever to download my pages, and while on POTN, I find the same happens when I try to view anyone's images from SM.
I don't have that problem on my laptop, or my other desktop. I can't find the reason for this weird behavior either!

However, your image loaded immediately for me.

I thought it might be, John. :-)

I did a little more experimenting this afternoon with some flowers. This was also based on some info I saw in the B&H flower photography webinar (external link) where the photographer took a 600mm lens & added a TC and extension tubes to get close on some flowers. I just used my 100-400 with 1.4tc on 7DII for an effective focal length of almost 900mm. I was about 8-10' away (just about as close as I could get & still focus) from the flowers. These are in my neighbor's yard and get some nice afternoon sun. I played with this shot in Color Efex Pro (external link), Topaz Impression (external link) and Silver Efex Pro to get several versions of the image. I thought I'd share the b/w version here. (I hope SmugMug plays nice this time.)

That focal length really throws the background out of focus when you're that close! I may try adding the extension tubes tomorrow or later this weekend for some other photos.
