I thought it might be, John. :-)

I did a little more experimenting this afternoon with some flowers. This was also based on some info I saw in the B&H flower photography webinar (external link) where the photographer took a 600mm lens & added a TC and extension tubes to get close on some flowers. I just used my 100-400 with 1.4tc on 7DII for an effective focal length of almost 900mm. I was about 8-10' away (just about as close as I could get & still focus) from the flowers. These are in my neighbor's yard and get some nice afternoon sun. I played with this shot in Color Efex Pro (external link), Topaz Impression (external link) and Silver Efex Pro to get several versions of the image. I thought I'd share the b/w version here. (I hope SmugMug plays nice this time.)

That focal length really throws the background out of focus when you're that close! I may try adding the extension tubes tomorrow or later this weekend for some other photos.

very nice! looks like a mono watercolour...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

That's really nice, Lisa.
Cool how we can see the insides of the flower.

Love this Lisa. It really has a surreal quality about it!
I especially like the light shining through and on the surface of the petals.

lavanut, that came out great and it got me to give it a try myself... :-)
Just a tad different though.. (almost like a mutt, multiple types combined) ex. Sony A6000 with Kenko 1.4 TC and Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L lens ;-)a

Nice, John! It is kinda fun to experiment like that, isn't it? :-) Did you try it with the extension tubes yet? Also, how do you like the A6000?

Yea it is ;-)a
But didn't try with extension tubes, I hardly use the tubes anymore ever since I got the MP-E 65mm. Cause to me, nothing beats the macro lenses :p

The A6000 Sensor is so superior to my Canon's, and the camera is tiny in comparison. But AF with Canon lenses is very slow/bad. However they just came out with the A6300 and I have heard AF is great with EF & EF-S lenses

I took a ton of pictures trying to get a decent shot of the bees today and this is the best one. I really struggle with the yellow on these flowers, so the b&w works well for me on this. :-)

I think those "tulips" in the first image look a lot like daffodils to me. ;-)a
Like the llama shot too. It made me laugh.

Stina, that's a really nice shot of a bee on the flower! Nice & sharp. I know what you mean about trying to get a good one. Sharp focus can be challenging with them.

The tulip festival is always a hit with me!
And yes those are daffodils :p
Love the color shots, Kevin.
I'm never up in the PNW this time of year.
Perhaps next year, I'll make it a destination.
