Extremely windy today, snow, and rain. I even had to dodge some downed powerlines on the way home. Glad I went out and found the Osprey today though.

What does everyone think about birds looking of flying away from the camera?

It happens to me all the time in the field - I'm approaching a bird, getting closer and closer, and then finally the bird takes off. And that gives an opportunity to get some shots of the bird in flight. But the bird is flying away from me, and I'm basically shooting it in the back.

Here's what Arthur Morris says about it in The Art of Bird Photography II: "Images of birds facing slightly or well away from the camera are rarely successful." (Page 183 if anyone is interested.)

Thoughts?
