great portrait of the blue /black bird wes

Here is one of a few shots of birds in flight that i get that came out OK 7d markll sigma 150-600 c
I have camera set so that i can press the AE lock buton and my preset settings can then be used (i hope that makes sense )
My settings are AV F7.1 ISO 1000 EC +2/3 MM spot metering AF single point spot
what i find is the speed can be all over the place anything from 8000 down to 600 almost in same area
so whats your thoughts

The Circus Has Arrived! That's how it seems as a covey of California Quail start running pell mell across the lawn. Smiles abound at their antics and our ears are treated to their unique calls and songs!
