This is one from 2006, hard to believe its been almost 10 years since I tried this one. Thought it was worth bringing back for Halloween.

Steve,
a stunning pic of this nebula

have seen so many gauldy and overprocessed versions of this nebula over the years, that I had forgotten that this is a beautiful blue coloured reflection nebula

you have blown this one out of the water for a realistic image rendition :-)

my hat off to you

Dave

Thank you very much Dave. I captured this one with my Sky 90. The star spikes came from my experimentation with creating spikes by crossing fishing leader across the front of the scope. Once I started using a Newtonian and getting them the "real" way I stopped trying to get them on the refractor. I don't think the spikes are too overpowering on objects like The Witch Head but on star-rich objects like Pleiades they're a bit much for my taste.

Thank you very much Dave. I captured this one with my Sky 90. ...............

Hi Steve

A belated response to this comment from you
Sky 90 ? skywatcher 90 ?

just been mulling over the possibility of buying a refractor for photography... something I could piggyback on my CPC925
I want something with much lower f-stop than the f10 of the 925 but longer focal length and slightly better f-stop than my
Canon 100-400mm which is f5.6 @ 400mm.

Was interested in what you were referring to with the sky 90 and it's spec's ?

looking at these as possibilities ( just pondering unless some one can suggest much better) ......

( this one I am only interested in the optics quality as the mount wont be used)

Ohhh I have a HEQ5 PRO goto mount that either of these scopes would be mounted to in the future

you experienced thoughts would be appreciated

Regards
Dave

Hi Dave. I use a Takahashi Sky 90. It's 500mm out of the box @ f/5.6. With the focal reducer/flattener it's 407mm @ f/4.5. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny for adapters, the reducer/flattener is $517 US. From what I can tell the Sky 90 isn't available here in the US anymore. It looks like it is in Europe.

The TMB Optical 92mm is a good option as well if this is the size range you're looking for but I believe it's discontinued. Maybe find a used one? Also Stellarvue makes a real nice 80mm.

Stellarvue makes a great 80mm. I've seen this one up close and it's a beauty. Great focuser and it's a triplet. (480mm).

Hope this helps.
