NOTE: Anyone thinking about picking up an 80D and using it with the Tamron:

I bought a new 80D and the Tamron DOES NOT work in live view. In MF it is possible to snap a photo half the time, other times it freezes up the body so much so that you need to remove the battery to turn it off. In AF mode, it is even worse, freezes every time, can't even take a photo.
Again, that's in Live View mode, which is one of the greatest feature of this camera (and the 70D) if you like shooting wildlife (birds) from a very low angle. I did that on a trip to Florida 2 years ago and I got great results with my 70D (with a different lens back then).
But it's a disaster with the new 80D.

Normal, viewfinder based AF works properly, so if you only use that, it's fine.

p.s. I tried several other lenses (Canon, Sigma, even Tamron's 17-50 2.8) and they all work properly in live view on the 80D.

Gabe, just to confirm for those have the 70D, it does AF in live-view, correct?

The 70D, if that's your question, does focus properly and well in Live View, no problem there. I just tested my 70D a couple hours ago.
The 80D doesn't. I even cleaned the contacts on the lens (and on the brand new 80D), no fix.

I know Canon tweaked the Live View AF in the 80D compared to the 70D (e.g. the addition of Servo AF in Live View still shooting), and perhaps this changed code does not agree with the Tamron. That's too bad since I was planning on replacing my 70D with the 80D and I've relegated my crop bodies mostly to wildlife shooting, so this is a fairly significant issue for me.

That's bad news, a firmware from Tamron may never come and you have to send it in.
I wonder how sigmas 150-600 C performs with 80D.

An early season sail near Fort Niagara and the adjacent Coast Guard Station, from yesterday's visit. And, yes.... that is snow on the roofs of the Fort.

Same eagles as last posted eagle shots just outside of Houston Texas. Sun did not cooperate but managed a few.
