I have recently bought a new computer and 4k monitor for photography-related purposes (photoshop, editing images, etc). I have a Canon Pro 9000 mk II, but it is a large printer and I won't be able to fit it onto my computer desk with my new computer (at least not without clogging the entire desk space). I read that the newer Pro-100 is wireless, and I was initially interested as I figured I could just keep it on another desk in my office, but now I'm not so sure.

I have read that the Pro-100 can only print wireless up to 5x7" images/documents. Is this true? If so, this would defeat the purpose of having a wireless printer as I most often print 8x10 or larger. I only read this in one article out of many, so I wanted to make sure I am correct. This could be a deal breaker as my 9000 mk II would then work just as well.

Thanks!

From my personal experience, you have to connect it by the cable the first time you set it up, but after that you can connect wirelessly, and print any size. I'm definitely not constrained by the 5x7 limit when printing wirelessly. I've never even heard of that 5x7 limit.

Baseless speculation: maybe that limit only applies when printing directly from a Wifi-enabled camera?

Added benefit: for very large paper sizes, the Pro-100 will use the rear feed which needs a smaller footprint than the 9500's flat feed.

Trade-off: I don't think the 9500 will do flat feed at all, for media types that require a flat feed, such as the Booksmart Studios printable metals (external link). I haven't experimented much with this yet. I had some success using the 9500's flat feed to print on these metals.

Pro-100 can print any sized print wireless. It is slower though.

Thanks guys! Looks like the Pro-100 is back in the running, then!

And as far as it being slower while wireless, I think I can deal with that so long as it isn't several times slower.

Sending the data wirelessly will be slower getting the data to the printer, but the print speed will be identical.

^Makes a lot of sense! Good to hear the actual print speed will be the same. Thanks for chiming in! :)
