Until the noisy AF is resolved on the 85 f1.4GM lens, I'm perfectly happy with using my 90 f2.8G macro lens for portraits. And although the FE 90 isn't as fast as the new FE 85, for me the DOF wide open is still very thin with nice smooth bokah. The cropped sample is not quite 100% because I wanted to include a bit of the bg. The iso for this shot was 400 and no noise reduction was used.

AF speed on my FE 90 also seemed very fast, particularly because the room was dark and I relied on the AF to nail focus on the eyes since this is a "selfie". Exposure was made using my wireless remote in hand, no timer delay or pre focusing done. AF had no problem focusing on the eyes instead of the brim of the cap either.

Its nuts when you think of it like that. With how much GAS we all have here though im surprised none of us have never tried it

Sure, but spending 6 grands is a lot compared to a brand new 85GM. Ive speng 2500$ for my leica 50 and even for that purchase i think im crazy. Wouldnt i already be saving for a car you could be sure that i had tried the 16-18-21, thought :) hence the comparison to a car :p

Don't you just hate it when cameras and lenses are released with bugs still in them!

cancelled my 85GM order. as soon as the money is back, i'm ordering the batis 85. the extra money would go to the FE50mm f1.8.

Very smart move Vin.

Yeah, I also cancelled my 85GM preorder immediately when those reports started surfacing on the Chinese forums. $1800 is too much to pay when there's clearly a widespread issue. It's not just one person reporting this - that would just be a bad copy. So far I've only heard of ONE report of someone receiving an 85GM that doesn't do this. That's insane. People defending Sony and saying "eh, I'm sure it'll be OK" are nuts IMHO. This isn't by design. Sony would not make a big deal about clickless aperture for video, if the focus is meant to be so loud that it destroys video audio to begin with. This is clearly a problem and early adopters on this one will probably all have to deal with a recall.

I still look forward to picking up an 85GM, and pitting it against my other 2 85's, but only after Sony has figured out what the hell is going on and fixed the problem. You'll LOVE the Batis. The ONLY downside on the Batis is that you pay for the amazing CA control with some slight nissen bokeh issues, but it absolutely KILLS it in every other aspect.

Stuff like this happens with all manufactures....left side AF issues with D800 and oil leaks across various models...light leaks in the 5DIII and AF accuracy issues in the 7DII.

The key to me is how these manufacturers handle problems like these when they arise.I was pretty impressed with how Sony handled the light leaks in the RX1RII....but Sony has egg on their face in other areas regarding service so we'll see how this goes.
