135L on 5D3
you need more DoF
girl in the back is OOF
F4 at least, prob 5.6 required at that distance
I like the 3D feel coming from the limited depth of field.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

If feel of depth is what you are after at all, of course.

Apr 11, 2016 16:00 | #2589 I thought this was a thread for prime lens portraits? Isn't there a dedicated thread for people soliciting CC? The creative artist seems to be almost the only kind of man that you could never meet on neutral ground. He sees nothing objectively because his own ego is always in the foreground of every picture. - Raymond Chandler

I think you're too far from the subject in both. The house in the background in picture two is distracting. Lighting looks ok....maybe work on posing. He looks very nervous and stiff in both and the straight on camera position isn't flattering to anyone. I'd suggest if this is a fist attempt at portraiture to concentrate on just that. You say this is also the first time you've used a fully manual lens so now you have to concentrate on all of the things that go into making a good portrait and filly farting around with making this lens do what you want. You're creating handicaps where you really don't need to. Look at some posing ideas here and online and keep experimenting. thanks for the feedback! I agree on all points. Lots to learn and I definitely tried to bite off more than I could handle.

Although I love to shoot using these fast primes, they always result in too shallow DOF. Canon, Nikon, Sony, Minolta, Fujifilm, Sigma, Tamron & Tokina
