Quickly tap the center button three times and it will lock onto whatever is in the center of the frame. From there the camera will passively track the subject's location. Acquiring the focus is still mapped to to the back button focus, so you still have to hit that focus on the subject, but you don't have to hold the button down to track it.

The alternative is to simply set the camera to lock-on focus, with a focus area of center. This will eliminate the need to toggle center lock-on AF on. I like using the center lock-on AF though, since it gives me quick access to selecting my AF point manually if I want to.

lock-on focus only works with native lenses.

I have both atm, primarily because I still need my 5D3 for weddings, but I grab the a7r2 for everything else.

Things that are missing:
-Dual memory card slot
-Slower buffer
-Slightly slower focus
-Lens selection not as flexible + more expensive
-Joystick

For me though, none of these are "dealbreakers" when shooting anything but live events. I do the same, mostly street/portrait/Girlfriend Fashion Shoots with my a7r2, and all of my cons -I can live with. To be honest, I feel as if the a7r2 focusing system is MORE ACCURATE than Canon, but not as fast. I think I only ever missed a handful of focus on the eyes with both flexible point focus and eye-focus. The only pressing issue ATM is the lens selections and the prices of these lenses, primarily because I don't have an infinite budget. The batis 25/85 looks so tempting right now, and for the weight saved it's a no brainer.

I don't have 5D3, but also i don't have A7r2, so if you were in my place and let's say you have Canon 1 series bodies instead of 5D series, will you think about A7r2 or will you miss 1 series if you move with A7rII? And i think you know what is 1 series, let's say you have both 1Ds3 and 1DX.

Have both 5D3 and a7r, rII at hand. Each camera compensates to one another. Bringing both to a trip is great as a7 can share Canon lenses
