Right now I'm also searching for Insurance. I have Liberty Mutual and they are insanely expensive for auto and home. I'm probably going with commerce insurance which is now medfre. But I'm still shopping around.

I've had very good luck with Mapfre. My agents are responsive, attentive to detail and explain things well. The value provided doesn't make me feel awful about spending the money (I hate the idea of insurance TBH). I was able to file a claim online, and the couple of times I had questions they were answered to my satisfaction without multiple phone calls, etc. They provide vanishing deductible for auto insurance (which came in handy when my car got hit last July out in front of Stars in Hingham).

I was a little disappointed they didn't do small business insurance so I had to do my liability and my inland marine policies through another company that my insurance agency worked with (I want to say New London). They were easy to work with too (mostly because nothing ever happened, they just took my money), but they changed their premium levels and I had to pay a bit more the second year for a level of insurance I didn't really need (basically they changed the minimum premium from $200 a year to cover $10k in gear to $300 a year to cover $15k).

People. For those of you who've known me for a while... It happens in spurts, but I'm a lot of talk about gear. The thing about me is that I'm not very impulsive. However, I am very public about my thought process while mulling over a purchase... which can go on for longer than a year. I expect this Fuji thing will continue through the summer.

There are moments when I seriously consider buying and selling and, when that happens, I experience a lot of changeover in my kit. I was 95% happy with what I had before I sold the 70-200. The drawback was the weight of it all, because I have a tendency to carry most of everything with me. The benefit of it all was being ready. I had a kit I could rely on. I did find myself using the 70-200 less and less.

I posted most recently that I was thinking about switching part of my kit to Fuji (short to normal focal lengths). I'm now thinking that I would rather be ready at the helm with a 2nd 5d3 body and great prime lenses to lean on (need to pick up a 135L now).

Decisions, decisions. 1st world problems. I know I'm fortunate. Maybe I should just give it all up and focus my resources on the house.

Is this a photographer's mid-life crisis?

nice. i know a couple of the board members of USAA, but they never tried to sell it to me!

that's cause they're a great company and don't need those tactics!

It's also not a board members' job to sell their company's services.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions on homeowners insurance.

Time to start thinking about removing a couple of pines. They look healthy but the roots are beginning to lift the asphalt.

So I got my 70-200 back from canon, that I asked them not to fix. Which they didn't..and didn't charge me for...but now it zooms again..they must have disassembled it and put it back together, and it fixed something. I already have my new 70-200 2.8L IS Mark II, so I want to sell the other one. Do you guys think it's fair to sell a lens like that on Ebay, describe exactly what's wrong with it, etc. It needs work, barrels are loose. I wonder if anyone out there buys "semi-broken" lenses...

I think it's fair. You could have been sent back a brick, but you weren't. You're already ahead no matter how much you get for it on eBay, since it didn't sound like you wanted to fix it.

You might even get an offer here. Either way, just make sure you let people know it's As-Is.

So anyway... is the mkII really that much better?

It's much sharper at 2.8 and the IS seems to be better...that's just in comparison with my copy of the older 70-200. My fiancé has the Mark I version of the 70-200 2.8 IS, and hers is much sharper than my Mark I ever was..so...
