Millions of things, people, buildings on Earth aren't either, but that doesn't stop people from doing B&W photography ;)

Here's an older photo, taken with a completely different gear (Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS + 2x Canon + 2x Sigma teleconverters, 60D)
This seems to have more color and no purple band.

From Saturday afternoon. Took a few shots while watching the bird feeders. Not the greatest image, but daytime moon shooting is tougher than night time.
