Thanks, and thanks for asking!

Definitely planned. I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, so I often watch for planes leaving the airport and crossing in front of the Moon. Sometimes I can go hours without a shot and other times I can get a few - it's actually a lot like fishing! It has also become an obsession of mine.

This plane wasn't from Atlanta and was travelling West to East at an high altitude. I saw it coming. I use an app called "Flight Radar 24" to identify planes, but this one didn't list where it was going. Shots of planes just passing over Atlanta are more rare, but I have caught a few.

I actually caught a second plane about 30 minutes later - not as cool a photo, but an interesting story. I didn't see it coming. I had just taken a photo of a wildflower in my yard and was re-focusing on the Moon when it came through the viewfinder.

Flight Radar 24 did identify this one. It is an American Eagle flight from Charlotte, N.C. to Jackson, MS, on a Canadair CRJ-700 with an altitude of 34,000 feet:

PS - There are several shots of various planes crossing the Moon on my smugmug page (linked in my signature), in the "Planes" gallery.

Heron

Visited my pond and helped its self to a goldfish we had had for about 28 years
the worst bit was after at lot of stabing and trying to swallow it (because it was a large and very deep fish ) the heron in the end lost the fish bettwen a fence and my compost heap (so it died in vain )and worst of all I never got the money shot

Several owners of this lens got the Quick Strap last year from eBay. I love mine - $7.50 was a great bargain for this strap and I do not see any wear and tear yet. Here it is for $5.29

The above link is not where I got mine but same product. I have no affiliation to it - just pointing to the product. :-)

Amazing results... so you are focussed on the moon vs the aircraft - what is your typical aperture?

I focus on the Moon, usually f/6.3 to f/8.

I believe there's some motion blur in the above photo - I don't think it is a focus issue. I thought 1/1000 would be enough, but maybe not.

Don't underestimate the amount of atmosphere and thermal currents that you are shooting through as well.
The results are still quite good all things considered.

So do you mean to say that the plane is travelling so fast in relation to the still moon that your shutter speed was low? What setting would be ideal then?

One of the things that I love the most about this lens is the effectiveness of the OS.

Hand-held.
