To the Sony Shooters - What lenses do you use?

Love what I have. It's just too heavy.

How is the 18-105 f4? Just ordered an a6000 and it will only be used for video.

I'm researching Sony lenses but it seems many don't even use sony glass so I'm looking at some possible lineups for a A7RII/6300.

my main goal would be small/light so it would probably be primes only.

I'm thinking the Voightlander 15 ( I believe one is coming soon for Sony E ) and the Zeiss Batis 25. I assume these would both work on the A7RII and 6300?

I would also want something in the 35 to 85 range.

I'm interested to know what most Sony shooters are using and what you would suggest for the smallest possible size/weight.

If I am going light weight, I will use 35f2.8 FE, 55f1.8FE on A7r, and 35f1.8E and 50f1.5E on A6000. Since mostly I use wide angle, so Touit 12f2.8 will also be in my bag

when I travel I bring the 16 to 35 and 1 fast prime. currently that's the cv 40 but thinking of getting the 55 1.8 if i like the rendering ... I am asking for some side by sides in the lens section hoping that would push me over the edge or totally forget about the lens....

that's also the reason why I am trying to check other uwa zoom possibilities that are smaller than the 16to35

I dont shoot a lot of Tele especially when travelling because I want to see the background..I am in a new place after all so I tend to shoot wider than longer.....bringing a heavy long lens for like 10 percent of the shots doesn't appeal to me.

you can bring a very small 135 3.5 manual lens though if you want a small and light Tele but no af

I only have three lenses for my three Sony bodies. I bought a fourth, a LoMo 120mm f1.8, but I still need to convert it. It came to me with considerable internal dust from Russia, so I'm still not sure if I'm going to go through with the conversation.

PZ16-50--the little kit lens that could (with help in PP). I use it for personal use, group shots and even events with a flash. It keeps my a6000 compact, which is most of why I bought it.

FE55 1.8--spends most of the time on my a7R as a normal/portrait lens and I love it. It is even better as a short telephoto on my a6000, which I have used for baseball and basketball. Fast focusing and great IQ.

Minolta HS 200 2.8 APO--The Sony equivalent to the EF200 2.8L. It even has a built-in retractable hood. Some prefer the colors from this lens to the Canon, I just think it is different. Either way, it is great for sports on either the a6000 or a77ii with its fast focus and sturdy build. Doubles as an outdoor portrait lens, especially on the a7R--holy colors, Batman!

I just got my a6500 and I shoot with the 30mm 1.4 and the 18-105 f/4 (which Im about to sell and get the 18-35 1.8 Sigma). I like these lenses, I rarely use my Sony for Portraiture though

Small kit - a7rii + FE28 + FE55

Large kit - a7rii + sigma 35 Art + sigma 85 with metabones

Landscape - a7rii + canon 16-35 f/4 + samyang 14 + samyang 24 (all canon mount)

Macro - a7rii + tokina 90 f/2.5 "bokina" (pentax mount)

Carry everywhere - x100t

As you can see various combos that I switch between depending on situation/mood/weather

Update , things have changed in the 17 months since I wrote this. My kit is now -

General kit - FE 28, FE 55 & Batis 85

Landscape kit - Voigtlander FE 15, Loxia 21, Contax Zeiss 100-300

Astro - Samyang 25 1.4 Canon Mount

Carry everywhere - Fuji X100F

I’m new to Sony, coming from canon with heavy glass.

So new in fact my A7R3 isn’t arriving until tomorrow. I ordered it with their new 24-105 but as that didn’t come in and obviously a body is of no use without a lens, and as I hate waiting for anything, I jumped on a used but mint Sony 24-70. Hope the size and weight doesn’t disappoint me. My last body was the 1Dx2 so anything will feel lighter.

Question is what will my next lens be.

I’m tired of the bulk of a DSLR so I also decided to move to Sony. I tried the 7ar2 and I liked it so I’ll be slowly moving over. I’ll probably get the 3. In really interested in the batis 25 and 100-400 along with an uw and something in the 35-85 range.

I plan to transition slowly over the next year.

Im actually wanting to switch from the Canon version to the Sony version for the size saving. Just waiting on a good deal on a Sony one first

From looking at the images to your link, the 16 35 sony /zeiss looks capable for nice landscape work. Looks like he has both 16-35 2.8 GM & 16-35 f4 oss sony/zeiss Would you get rid of your WA primes for either

I think that depends what and how you shoot, although coming from a 1DxII , you might like the 100-400 GM and 1.4 tc for some wildlife

I wrote that a while ago and ended up not getting the 16-35 as I love my primes too much. I see Albert is using the GM lenses now too
