I looks pretty good for a first try. Since he's in a suit I'd guess he wants to make an impression, so I wouldn't shoot down on him. Better for me would be straight on, or maybe a little below eye level.

This image is not supposed to be a corporate headshot type of thing. We did a lot of different setups, but this was the one I really wanted to create.

The good people at Phase One lent me a demo P1 XF with an IQ350 to play with over the weekend a couple of weekends ago. My friend Martin was happy to let me test it on him, so I set up a portable studio in his small kitchen =)

Here's the BTS and final result.

I like the shot, and I'm a wee bit jealous of the Phase One, but I do feel like the rim light is just accentuating his protruding ear. Because the front of the ear isn't catching any light at all it really makes it stand out.

I wouldn't be too jealous of the Phase One. First, it was just a demo. Second, while the image quality was hands down fantastic, and despite the autofocus being relatively quick and precise with the only focus point being in the middle, focus and recompose moved the focus plane ever so slightly that I managed to get about 50% of the shots in focus. I'm sure technique could improve things, but if it had been commissioned it would have created unnecessary doubt in my mind during the shoot. Either that or stopping down the lens, but that would change the look of the images...

More dead flowers. This time, upside down in a fish tank with food colouring poured into the water.

Piece of white paper on the outside of the tank behind the flowers, and flash fired from behind the paper.

Might try some different variations of this....

Been shooting a DF+ for about three years now.

Focus recompose gets easier. I shot off a tripod exclusively for about the first 6 months.

I was disappointed to hear at release that the XF is still just a single focus point.
