I have not seen many post focusing on swimming that are open to all to share. I didn't want to jump in on someone else's thread that was about his or her swim photos looking for comments and critiques, so I am starting this thread to share a few of my swim pictures shot at swim meets in which my daughter swim team participated. All are welcome to add to the thread. I enjoy sharing my photos and viewing photos.

This series of photos focus more on the breakout:

Great shots. How do you find the 100-400? I only ask as I use it a lot with my 6D, and I'm doubting either it, or my photography ability!! Particularly fully opened at 400m.

Cheers

I have the 6D and a 100-400 II as well and get excellent pictures with it almost regardless of what I shoot. I'm guessing from the way you worded your question that you are not. Is that the case? What are you shooting that the results were less than you expected and what is it about those pictures that you don't like?

By the way, Ken, your pictures are dynamite. I love the 'frozen' water.

I love the lens. It is my primary lens on my 50D. I use my 5D for wide shots.

The photo below was shot at 400mm wide open. I did not expect to be on deck for the finals at night, so I did not pack my 70 -200 f/2.8 with me. I made the best of the situation with what I had.

Not all my shots are keepers. I have the same question that saea501 asked: What are you shooting that the results were not what you expected?

Saea501, Thank you for your help and comments.

Really nice timed shot on the all and not one to be called my favourite one out of these.
So a very good set of shots.

I am willing to learn and will listen to what other have to say.
But if I don't like it, never take offense to it.
It is just something that I may not like.

Kszok and saea501,

Thanks for your responses. I shoot a range of things, probably focussing (no pun intended) on birds / birds in flight, and sports of all kinds. in fact my current project is to capture as many high-class sporting events in my home town of Canberra (we often host international events). So far i have a collection of cricket, baseball, football, tennis, fencing, and field hockey, and I am looking forward to an upcoming car rally through the forests around Canberra. I expect archery will be a challenge!!

After your comments, i looked back at my 400mm shots. I can see that the majority of my "people" shots are quite good, but with smaller subjects such as birds, i don't have as many crisp shots. So that to me suggests "operator-error", and some more learning for me. I note, however, that my success rate with my Sigma 2.8 70-200 APO DG is much higher - consistently sharp and clear.

I will be posting today (hopefully) some of these shots in their respective forums.

Cheers

Rhyno

Thank you for your questions and comments. The images in OP were processed in LR. I used a preset I called "gritty detailed effect" producing an "artsy" result. This preset works well with some images and looks terrible with other. The first image below is of my daughter swimming the butterfly leg of her 400 meter IM. This image has the preset applied to it. The second image is a few frames later without the preset applied.
