Heron

Visited my pond and helped its self to a goldfish we had had for about 28 years (taken though double glazing )
the worst bit was after at lot of stabing and trying to swallow it (because it was a large and very deep fish ) the heron in the end lost the fish bettwen a fence and my compost heap (so it died in vain )and worst of all I never got the money shot

When we had a pond.. before a neighbor complained and we were -forced- to fill it in and remove it... I remember having netting over it to protect our Koi.. There WAS a heron siting on my neighbor's roof one day and we lost a few fish here or there to cats and possibly the red-tailed hawk that hangs around (I got a few crappy pics of him actually with the 150-600 yesterday.. my best pics were, oddly enough, with my first camera and a crap Nikon 70-300 because he was perched on the concrete wall helping himself to a squirrel)

Still sad to see.. Poor goldfish

Maybe... We personally think he was more interested in the variety of small vermin that hang out.. We live right near a highway that has a ton of brush and everything which is just the PERFECT place for rodents to live.. ive heard but never actually spotted an owl thats around here somewhere

Less a red-tail, more a coopers hawk.. And yes, he was in my neighbor's yard, Then on their car and etc..

that was with my 30D a good 7 years ago him and his descendants are still around though

Quick update - I received my lens last week and so far I'm very happy with it. Autofocus is snappy and accurate and colors seem to be reproduced more vividly than any of my other lenses. I did go ahead and order the dock also, and it arrived yesterday. It turns out that my lens shipped with the latest firmware version, so there was no update available. I really wasn't that surprised, because I thought the AF was already pretty fast, I couldn't imagine it getting 50% faster (but I hoped anyway).

I haven't messed with the AF microadjust settings yet. It doesn't seem to be terribly out of whack at the moment, but I'll take some sample shots soon to make sure.

I tried out the dynamic OS and speed-priority and focus-priority settings briefly yesterday. It's been raining here in Texas so I didn't get much time to try them out, but my first impression was they didn't seem to make too much of a noticeable difference to me. Maybe time will change that. We should have some sun on Saturday so I plan to take it out and shoot most of the day. I have C1 set to dynamic OS and speed priority, and C2 set to dynamic OS and focus priority, so I can play around with them and see what suits me best.

In the meantime, here's a shot I managed to get last weekend shooting the house finches in my backyard.

Nice shot. I don't think the Firmware update improved the AF speed by 50%, but it was a noticeable amount, so I'm not complaining. From what I have been seeing on the news it's been a little bit more than raining in Texas this last week. There was me thinking that Texas was mostly naturally semi arid scrub. But that's probably down to watching too many films and TV. I hope your part of the Lone Star is not too badly affected.

West Texas is pretty dry. And that's probably the "Texas" that you're picturing from the movies, with the tumbleweeds rolling across the dirt road and all that. :-)

East Texas is a lot of forest and swamp, and gets quite a bit of rain, especially in the Spring, as evidenced by the news lately. Houston has been hit especially hard. I am in the Dallas area, which sits a little higher than Houston, so it isn't as prone to flooding (except areas right next to rivers and lakes). But we've received our fair share of rain over the last week.

After the firmware update I spent a day out shooting at an RSPB reserve. I can't say I noticed a massive speed increase, but then I've always found my copy to be pretty snappy. However, I am really happy with sharpness, with no microadjustment.

CONFUSED ! :

Kenji is the most recent poster and it says on my display it was 7 hours ago - BUT - the previous post is from APRIL 2016....

Please describe your display experience once you read this. Some kind of bug...

Edit: I do not see any images in the previous posts by Kenji, perhaps it is linked to a forum section I chose to block from my view...

No bug, you must have the Sony forum hidden as I did. Un-hide/show that forum and the images appear above.

I got confused what you guys were talking about lol

Why would hiding the Sony forum affect this thread however?

if someone shares an image that is in their gallery that was originally posted in a hidden forum, then you can't see the image...you just see [GALLERYIMAGE]: source forum filtered or no permission

i guess nekrosoft13's original post was in the sony forum? i still can't see it, since i'm not going to unhide that section
