Not the most scientific tests, I know. Just wanted to get a general feel for the performance. Center looks quite decent wide open, and gets better stopping down.

This has to be the weakest lens I own. And I am not sure how long I am going to own it after seeing its corner performance.

Thoughts? Do you think I should try a different copy, before deciding not to keep it at all?

Unless you make your living photographing small portions of home siding, I'd say give it a chance in the real world. Having seen some of your images, I think you'll do well with it. If not, dump it.

I am not one to pixel-peep either, believe me. I just want to make sure I don’t have dud. Have you seen better performance from yours? Or is this pretty average among all 17-40s? How much copy variance is there?

Thanks for chiming in.

For a lens that doesn't get a lot of respect around here, many can't see past the 16-35L, it does produce some beautiful images. Right? I love mine and plan on keeping it for some time.

i bought a 16-35 f/4 is a couple of months ago and i haven't gotten rid of my 17-40 yet. if i didn't have either i'd buy a used 17-40 and spend the extra cash on a samyung or bower 14mm f/2.8. i like my 17-40.

After getting rid of my T3 + 18-35 Art for a 6D + 50mm. I have been since looking for a wide angle that wouldnt quite break the bank and thus received this a few weeks ago. First time taking it out and have to say Im happy with the results.

One usually does not associate this lens with astro photography, but I've used it in a VERY light polluted area to get some very nice star trails above a little waterfall.
Bought this lens to use with my LEE filter set and this is a VERY commonly used lens for me for doing long exposures.

It's a reflection of the light between the trees above the water.
This is shot in a park in the middle of the city..
