Oh ~ My ~ Goodness.

Following my dissatisfaction with B&H on some things with my early March pre-order, I cancelled my B&H order earlier today and took my money over to Adorama instead. Adorama was polite, gave me as much info as they could (to include my place in line), and they are even running a promotion for call-in orders that includes and extra battery, for free!

Well guess what...less than 10 hours after placing my pre-order with Adorama, my credit card was charged and my order has shipped! They must have gotten a shipment of 1DX2s in this afternoon. I can hardly believe it! (Tracking number in-hand.)

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! It's not clear yet if it was shipped early enough this evening to get out tonight, but if it was, I will be greeting Big Brown at the door tomorrow morning between 11 am and noon.

Yippee!
Bryan

That's awesome! Congrats!

Adorama has really earned my trust and business through this whole release. They've been nothing but cool and levelheaded while they just make orders happen for us. :-)

Congrats Bryan!

I suspect they are getting regular shipments in. I didn't think you'd be waiting long. :)

So with the two of you and the two cameras the state is full, then? ;)

Congrats from another RI 1DX ll, sweet deal with the battery. B&H matched a Best Buy deal for me with a video light and other goodies worth over $300 for free

Nice! That's a great score too! Good to know another fellow Rhodie will be getting their 1DX2 soon too.

Congrats!
Bryan

Two thumbs up from me too! And congrats on your order too! I actually have you to thank. It was your success story that drove me to call Adorama. So, thank you!

Free extra LP-E19 via Adorama, must say I feel disappointed with B&H.

So I've actually shot a rehearsal for a play with the 1DX Mark II (along with the 5DS R and the 1DX) and I must say the red AF points alone are worth the upgrade -- the 1DX and 5DSR AF points are very hard to see when AI Servo is enabled unless you are in bright day light (and even then dark objects might throw you off).

Some initial thoughts:

- The camera feels more responsive than the 1DX.
- AF seems improved from the 1DX especially w.r.t. tracking in very low light situations (>ISO 12800 f/2.8 1/100) situations.
- High ISO noise is very manageable. Noise is more fine-grained than the 1DX. ISO 32000 (see examples below) are usable at small print sizes or for web purposes.
- The buffer depth is also amazing with a CFast card (170+ shots is definitely doable).
- Colors straight out of camera seems to be a bit less saturated than the 1DX, but that is always adjustable in Lightroom.

In general, I am very pleased with the new camera and am now seriously thinking about selling the 1DX to get another 1DX2 :).

(the metadata tag says ISO 25600 but it is actually ISO 32000 because the POTN forum software doesn't support 1/3 stops at these sensitivities :p)

Frank that is amazing, even at ISO32K there is substantial dynamic range.

As a fellow 5DSR owner, and with a 1Dx II on its way, what are your thoughts about seeing 20mpix files after you have been looking at 50mpix files from the 5DSR?

Where do you see yourself using each if fps isn't an issue? Is it going to be good light = 5DSR, less good light = 1Dx II?

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Regarding the 5Dsr and by tonight a 1DxmkII owner too I Have to say I'm not expecting the 1DXmkII to impress me when compared regarding detail .

Everything else sounds great "Silent" shutter aside I hope I'm wrong and the new sensor has a sort of catch up for its lower Mps.

I mostly shoot birds and very often you need to crop hence my reservation .

Rob.

Canon CPS loaned me a 1Dx1 for a wedding that I have this weekend. Sold one of my 5d3's. Now then 1Dx2 is going to arrive on Thursday or Friday. Looks like we are going to have both bodies at this wedding. So my plan is to put them to use, side by side at that reception when its dark and get some identical light situation shots for comparisons.

I think this will help some of you on the fence.

Super anxious to get it here as I want to be sure all my triggers and lighting works before I get up Saturday morning.

You guys that are opening 1Dx2 RAW files. Are you on Creative cloud and using LR. I updated so pretty sure 1Dx2 files will open. 1Dx1 Raw files open with no issues.

Hm... Looks like B&H will be moving down on my vendor's list a few notches in the future.

I had pre-ordered the camera/premium kit back on 2/2. No e-mail, no notifications. Online says processing. So I called yesterday morning, definitely before noon eastern time to check what's up. They say they'll split my order as the extra battery allegedly was the reason why my order was held up. I've had similar types or orders before and they never had an issue splitting the order automatically. Guess policy has changed over the years.

My CC was charged yesterday shortly after.

And this morning, I just got an e-mail saying that my order is shipped and won't be here until 5/5, tomorrow.

So I guess I really paid for 2-day shipping instead of overnight, eh? Or B&H now only have UPS pick up packages in the mornings and don't send them out in the afternoon/evenings? It's quite disappointing how B&H's level of service seems to have disintegrated over the years. Wasn't like this 2 years ago.

And now, if y'all will collectively play the world's smallest violin. This is truly an example of 1st-world problem.

:lol: :p:twisted::-)
