Hm... I am actually quite surprised by the D5's results here. And the a7r2's result is just amazing for +5 push. o.O Continues to impress.

I'm not. Nikon seems to have given up on sensors to use Sony sensors - but then used their own in their flagship D5? - there has to be reasons but that pretty much explains what the results show. A new 810 (850?) that kicks up FPS to 8 could do serious damage to the D5 sales; whereas, I don't see an 8FP 5D4 at 28Mpix killing 14fps 1Dx II sales. The 1DX II won the FPS, the low ISO DR, the video, the shadow pushing and the price; the D5 only seems to have won the the 25,600ISO and higher 1/2 a stop more of DR - add it all up and it seems like a killing for Canon. Furthermore, they launched the d500 at the same time for 1/3rd the price - now that camera is going to sell like crazy.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

As a fellow 5DSR owner, and with a 1Dx II on its way, what are your thoughts about seeing 20mpix files after you have been looking at 50mpix files from the 5DSR? Where do you see yourself using each if fps isn't an issue? Is it going to be good light = 5DSR, less good light = 1Dx II?

In good light and with the right lenses it is definitely a step down in detail but since most of my theater photos are remain only on the web, it doesn't matter too much.

I think I will continue to use the 5DSR as a primary camera for landscape work, where I have ample time to set up and try a bunch of shots and pick the best one. The 1DX2 (and the 1DX) will be the main cameras for theater, dance and sports going forward. The 5DSR in those situations will have the wide (11-24 / 16-35) lens mounted -- where I don't really need the fps or tracking abilities anyway.

From DPreview
- a screenshot showing ISO100 +5EV
- Canon 1Dx II stays pretty close to the class leading A7Rii, improved over the 5DSR (which is already much better than the 5D3), and better the Nikon D5
- Nikon's choice of using and internal sensor, versus a Sony Sensor found in the 810 and 750, clearly shows in this test
- at +5 Stops pushed, the Nikon is equal (maybe a tiny, tiny bit better to the 5DSR), at +4 Stops the 5DSR is better than the D5 (at base ISO 100)

Canon seems to have closed 90% of the gap to Sony - the +4 to +5 EV ability of the 1Dx II, with -3EV AF and red FP is going to be fantastic for events - I would have to think the 5D4 is going to get all of this as well, be smaller, lighter, and get 7 or 8 FPS at 28Mpix which will be perfect for the wedding crowd. This seems like a win for Canon and a bit of a dud for Nikon

Well well well, will wonders never cease! I was not expecting 1Dx2 to beat the D5 in this test.

Bring it to the meeting and ask everyone why they forgot their show and tell for the day as you proceed to unbox it live for them. :-P

One of the camera after unboxing (I took a bunch) and one with it during my lunchtime photo walk.

Let's see how much time I get to take real pictures this month.

I know I'll get at least 1K frames at Maker Faire, anyway. :D

I think yours is the only one, thus far, with a near-perfect box. The others all have some damage to the box. This should keep your resale value at least $1.00 higher than others in the future.
