Oh, I also like the review on the 80D. I have a 40D "back-up" for my 5DIII, but I think the 80D would make a snappy upgrade.

The increase in dynamic range is causing me to completely rethink how I expose the subjects that I shoot. Going from the 40D to the 80D will be a huge change for you -the 40D has an absolutely horrible light meter -acts more like a random number generator. The 80D has one of the most accurate, and predictable, light meters that I've seen in a Canon camera (although my experience is obviously limited). I spend more time just shooting and less time worrying about over exposing a scene.
