Those are beautiful shots! I returned from my trip to Spain yesterday and imported my 2k+ digital photos today. It's going to take a while to get through all of them, but suffice it to say it was a phenomenal trip. Spain is beautiful and the only city I didn't like was Madrid. Toledo was worth every penny spent on the train tickets and every second we spent limping around at the end of the day. I did not think the "hill" part of that city through very thoroughly.

Thanks! Trujillo's a beautiful town ...

I live in Madrid but am not enamoured with the place either ... what was it you didn't like?

I loved that we could cycle everywhere in a great network of bike lanes, so much more relaxing than in Madrid ...

I say this coming from a position of having lived in other parts of Europe for six years and traveling a fair bit throughout that region. Madrid felt very generic. It was kind of like someone dropped NYC in Europe without specifying any specific culture or anything for the city. Compared to Toledo, Granada, or Ronda nothing about Madrid felt like Spain. It just felt overcrowded, like I was trying to wade through Times Square everywhere I went. While there were some cool things about the city, and walking through the C. 30 tunnels (we got to walk around the lower level, the one for emergency vehicles) was fun, it wasn't a very good experience overall. We found the people to be rude and pushy and wanted to get out as soon as we started exploring. I was glad to go to Toledo the next day with my boyfriend.

Fair. I avoid places like Gran Via, Arenal (street between Sol and Opera) and Fuencarral for that reason - not a fan of the crowds. And yeah, while Madrid has some impressive buildings, it doesn't really have a signature or feel of its own, and the places with a little bit of character (Malasana, Lavapies) have character because of the people. I can see why it would leave you a bit cold.

To be honest I've been thinking about moving for a little while, and Valencia on the weekend really appealed to me and made Madrid seem unnecessarily large and stressful by comparison.

Guardijan - the first one reminds me of somewhere similar that we drove across in Castilla La Mancha; that one's more impressive though.

MGH - some interesting landscapes, and rock formations, down your way. My sister sometimes heads Malaga way to go climbing.

This time she came to visit me in Madrid, but we went on a day trip to Avila ... never seen Spain so green, it's nice.

I was there! But I took the easier way through and just did the hike along that narrow little path they built. GORGEOUS area, but my boyfriend thinks I'm insane for wanting to do it on my own free will. One of my classmates discovered her fear of heights not long after we started...

adivineeternity, When where you there? Here´s some photos of the "Camino de Rey" before it was made tourist friendly last year.

I was there on April 27, so I missed out on the less tourist-friendly version. I mean, yeah, it's high up there and stuff. But it's not actually scary. People seemed to think I was weird for not having an issue with the height, wind, heat, etc. But I was actually fine. The old version of that walk would have been fun, too, honestly. More like a high ropes course. A really, really long, really, really high one.
