This jumbo jet was heading for MIA when it was diverted to FLL due to a heavy thunderstorm. On Saturday August 1 2015 it took off on the shorter south runway at FLL. It was a short takeoff because the jet was much lighter than when it arrived.

Thanks for sharing these great photos. Good to see Eastern flying again, even if it is not the same Eastern that I worked for back in 1985-86 in Salt Lake City as an agent. I moved on but the Eastern people were a close knit group and I remember those times fondly. Mr. Lorenzo had other ideas how to run an airline. I believe at that time they were operating DC-10, L-1011, B-757, Airbus A300, and DC-9. Probably others but I can't remember. Again, great photos.

It's a pleasure sharing these images and telling short stories associated with some of them.

As a fan of Eastern Airlines I hope they are successful and early indications are that the charters to Cuba are successful.

If you have been to an air show, seen the acrobatic moves and wondered if you could do the same, there is a company in Fort Lauderdale willing to train you in this advanced jet trainer.

This is the Aero Vodochody L39C jet designed for training purposes. "The Aero Vodochody L-39 aircraft is a low-wing, tandem seating, all metal turbofan powered aircraft designed for basic and advanced training, including weapon delivery practicing, as well as for light attack tasks." (SOURCE: http://www.l39.com/ (external link))

These photos were taken at FXE in Oct 2015.

Your image of the BA 747 with the back-ground storm reminded me of this image I took a few years ago runway 09 approach at El Dorado

They are nicknamed "Flying Sheds".
