I just got the G5 X & have made most all the personal preference settings I need except for the Dynamic Range Correction & Shadow Correction. On the Quik menu the 3 icons are greyed out. Does anyone know why ?

I usually shoot in P, Av or T mode. It's possible that I've made a setting somewhere on the many menu tabs that has deactivated these, although I've gone thru them many times & nothing stands out.

If someone knows the answer, could you please give detailed instructions on what to do - I'm old & a little slow :-)

I do not have the camera, so no detailed instructions from me, sorry.

Have you selected RAW format for your images?
After searching in the User Guide I found this on the page 94 of the English User Guide:

  • When transferring RAW images (or RAW and jpg images recorded together) to a computer, always use the dedicated software (pg 176)
  • Digital zoom (pg 41) is not available when capturing images in RAW format. Additionally, noise reduction level (pg 80), dynamic range correction (pg 81), shadow correction (pg 81), and My Colors (pg 83) cannot be configured.

You are correct, Rafael. The settings Tim mentioned are only available when shooting jpg. The settings are not available when shooting raw or raw+jpg. To my mind, they should be available in raw+jpg, but they are not.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Thanks rpolitsr... RAW shooting is something I forgot to mention. Yes, I shoot RAW only & think of JPG as a post processing step. earlier this morning I did some experimenting & found that the settings I was looking for were only available in JPG mode.

That little note you found couldn't have been buried much deeper. I probably should have searched on a key word like "shadow". I suppose the manual was written mostly for JPG shooters & that's OK. It's just the manual is the worst laid out one I've read in years - or I'm just getting old & crotchety:-)

Thanks LJ3Jim for verifying that info. I agree that some other items should be available for RAW as well. All the menu selections are a bit overwhelming to an old timer like me. My original 5D is complex enough (for me) but the G5 X is a fun addition now that I understand it better. I should post a photo of them together. It looks like the 5D had a baby:lol:
