Will assume you were shooting raw. Sooo, some questions if you don't mind: 1: distance to subjects, were you close or are they heavy crops 2: did you require extensive pp or we're things pretty good 3: focus mode, AI servo or one shot Don't want to push this to the point that my query should be in the 'focus discussion' thread but I haven't been able to get the same camera/lens combo to play nice together since I got the camera. Therefore people with successful results catch my attention. Sort of a 'what am I doing wrong' type of thing. Thanks Rod Thanks Rod. digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info Post edited over 7 years ago by digital paradise. | May 21, 2016 11:33 | #11778 I like to use one shot as well for stills. I also programmed the AF-ON button so AI Servo activates. It would have been nice if Canon had added Drive Mode to the "detail set". I leave it on High Speed Continuos and when I use the shutter for stills I get a few extra frames which is just a minor inconvenience. Image Editing OK

Grizz Cream of the Crop More info | Yes always high speed continuous in both modes for me as well. Like you I'll take the few extra shots but I am getting good a just squeezing off a single shot. Like you I'll take the few extra shots but I am getting good a just squeezing off a single shot. I also Microfocused the lens as well, seemed to make a difference. Those shots were also handheld. Also with the Tamron I have the cameras DOF preview button set to engage IS or VR or whatever Tamron is calling it. I don't use the IS,VR for BIF since I'll use a high SS, seems to work better for sharper images. The slower the lens the less noticeable MFA adjustments will be. Rudy Winston says you may not see any difference of up to 5 moves. My 100 - 400 II only needed +3 at 400mm so I don't really know for sure. It needed a lot when I put the 1.4 III on. Image Editing OK

As for that IS thing everyone says it is better without it. I always use it but will try without it this summer. On the Tammy I had to MF @ +7 on the long end. I'm pretty sure your 100-400 II's Panning IS mode is a lot better then the Tammy, Then again I'm sure everything is better! lol There is a firmware update to address this but I did not send it back for that update. Seems to work well enough if I can keep the SS high enough and track smoothly. The more I do it the better I get. When you set this up do you leave the VR in off position? Peter

I haven't sent mine in either and IS is about dead on mine. I just keep SS as high as I can. Dave

The way I have it set up seems to works well for me I only have IS/VR when I want to engage it. Peter2516 Cream of the Crop More info | May 21, 2016 17:25 | #11789 Grizz wrote in post #18014354 Hi Peter, Leave it ON on the lens. Go into the custom controls settings in the camera menu and then select the DOF button (4th one down in the left column) Select it and then scroll over to the IS start option and set it. The DOF button will now start VR when depressed. You have to train your finger to depress the DOF button when you want VR engaged but with a little practice it becomes second nature. ![]() Very cool I will set it like that. Thanks Craig I appreciate it. Peter
