My D5100's screen flips all the way around, so I was just holding it up at arm's length (my arms aren't very long btw) while standing by a window. I realize now that wasn't among my brightest ideas..What wasn't a bright idea? I love window light!Just put the 5100 on a tripod and flip the screen around. You'll nail it next time! Paul

May 21, 2016 12:01 | #2225 My reasoning for hand holding the camera is so I can take multiple shots in a row, then try a different angle. Otherwise it's way more tedious to set it up on the tripod on timer, then take one by one. But I'll try it that way with my umbrella and see what I come up with. It allows you, however, to do the lightstand trick mentioned above, as well as have a good lighting arrangement. I am thinking of building a bigger version so that I don't have to be so close and I can use a longer focal length.
