This is just a stunning species, Habronattus icenoglei (external link) ♂, who posed nicely for me to get some natural light images.

These images were taken with a Nikon D810 with an all-manual 20mm f/2.8 Ai-S lens, reversed, on a RRS tripod + macro rail & remote switch. Natural light @ f/16, 2-second shutter, no flash.

Here is the Encounter (external link) for him.

I actually found him on a dead baby tortoise shell :cry:

I had my 300mm lens and was not equipped to take an ultra-macro shot, so I took him home for studio work later.

The flowers I put him on for the shoot are found both locally here in San Dimas, CA as well as where I found him (in Joshua Tree, CA).

I actually took the tortoise shell home with me, too, and will eventually get around to posing him on the shell, for the closest approximation as to how I actually found him in Nature :lol:
