Yesterday, I spotted this vicious hummingbird harassing a poor defenseless hawk perched on a nearby lamp post.

I asked because i'm thinking about the Canon 17-40L Vin, just my personal take, but I'd actually avoid the 17-40 for astro. I'm no astro expert, but I have owned that lens, and I sold it shortly after moving to the A7Rii. It's a nice cheap L, but it's cheap for a reason. At least the copy I had, the lens couldn't even come close to the resolving power of the sensor. I felt like I couldn't get any shots that were really sharp - BP -

It's been a nutty week for weather in KC. I'm a bit jealous - if I could scrape myself away from portraits and theatre, I'd love to give landscape shooting a go, but just never seem to have time for it. Anyway, great stuff as always Thank you! When I was looking at the two-week forecast prior to our arrival in KC I was dismayed to see "60% Chance of Thunderstorms (or rain)" for every single day. Fortunately things are opening up just a little, so hopefully it won't be as dismal as I was expecting. David | Flickr

May 28, 2016 23:00 | #18156 Banff is very high on my list of places to visit ASAP. I think we might try to do the train across the Canadian Rockies from Vancouver, finishing up with a few days in Banff. Just not sure when. Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

MedicineMan4040 The Magic Johnson of Cameras More info | The drive between Banff and Jasper Nat. Parks is No.2 in the world of places where I've been that screams every 5 min's 'stop the car, get out the tripod'. I've been three times and would go again for Peyto alone. flickr

alfredomora Cream of the Crop More info Post edited over 7 years ago by alfredomora. | May 28, 2016 23:18 | #18160 So apparently the Batis 18 has been receiving favorable reviews. I checked out a review on Phillip Reeve's site. This lens is supposedly excellent for astrophotography along with architecture/interiors and landscape. Sounds like exactly what I've been looking for. The one negative I see is the fly by wire focus system. And the sun stars are good but not as good as the Loxia 21 which also has very nice manual focusing. - Alfredo -

Yeah it's a pretty spectacular location. I was hoping for some good weather today however the conditions were changing so quickly from blue skies to snow and frozen pellets. It was snowing pretty heavily at Peyto, Moraine lake was overcast unfortunately. I waited about an hour at Peyto and it cleared up completely and was able to get some shots before the clouds rolled in again, I had been there once before but the water colour this year was absolutely spectacular.
