Found a Brimstone Moth last night on the door of the shed - I think it's the first time I have seen one (seen Brimstone butterflys before).

Bee's Lovin'.... Not often you see two big fat bumbles giving bit some welly, but these two alighted on the tip of a branch and I managed one shot in focus! I think judging by the size, they are Bombus ruderatus.

Just been in the Highlands of Scotland, and saw the possibility of a silhouette thanks to this angler.

Its this time of year that I can just about make it to this spot to catch the last of the light and hopefully grab some color. I will return weekly for the next month or so, until the days start getting shorter again, in the hopes of catching something more dramatic.

New Toy Arrived!

The YN 35mm f/2 !

Hightlights?
Front pinch cap! Metal mount!
f/2!
It works!

I bought this $106 CND lens with quite low expectations and essentially regard it as a toy to play with...

Personality? Sounds like a Nifty Fifty the morning after a party :p

But it works and snapped a few shots - one at f/2 that is pretty much minimum focus distance away (0.8 ft or 25cm) and same distance but f/10

Both Raw to jpeg in Lightroom - each with Contrast = 35. That is all.

The f/2 shot does not show sharpness - I was just too close to it and it basically shows the very front of it.

Will test for front/back focus later :p :-P

I have seen references to this lens on POTN but no image threads...
Got this lens after being in tight quarters with my 50 STM one day... thought a 35 would do the trick...

Chased a cinnabar moth around the garden this evening to get some pics - started off in the grasses by the fence, then it flew upwards onto the underside of a clematis leaf (bonus aphid nearby) and then it dropped downwards and landed on the moss on one the rockery rocks, which gave me a couple of angles to work at. Then Bilbo the kitten came to investigate so I scooped the moth into my hand and gently set it away into the top of the clematis again away from our marauding Bilbo...
