picked up another lens for $70 (a little bit of coating loss on front element)

looks to be sharp wide open, tried landscape apertures at longer distance, very sharp and crispy. Looks like a fantastic daytime walkabout lens.

initial impression is that this lens is very good. A tad on the heavy side, ~310g, 440 with mbIV

With the discussions a few pages ago about lenses heres my latest thinking on my lens lineup - (in case anyone gives a monkeys)

Keeping

Samyang 14 f/2.8
Samyang 24 f/1.4
Zeiss Batis 25 f/2
Sony Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA
Zeiss Batis 85 f/1.8

Selling

Canon 16-35 f/4 L IS - Selling as trying to go fully native, only really use it at 16mm, funding the Batis 18 with the sale
Sony FE 28 f/2 - Now redundant due to the Batis 25
Sigma 85 f/1.4 EX DG HSM - Now redundant due to the Batis 85

Unsure About

Sigma 35 f/1.4 ART - Love this lens but this will be my only lens requiring the metabones which makes the lens+adaptor value almost the same as a native FE 35 1.4. Unsure about the FE 35 1.4. Considering a second body with the money instead but unsure on that one at the moment.
Minolta 35-70 Macro f/3.5 - Really cool lens but didnt realsie the front element moved with the focus ring. I keep changing the focus by mistake when using my Lee filters
Tokina 90 f/2.5 Macro - Awesome lens but I barely use it. Thinking the money may be better invested elsewhere

Buying

Zeiss Batis 18 f/2.8 - It was between this and the Voigtlander 15 FE mount but QC issues and lack of filters steered me to the Batis (Plus the fact I love the other two Batis lenses)

Leica M11 | Leica Q2 | Sony α7RV
Voigtlander 28 f/2 Ulton II | Leica 50 Summilux ASPH

at the end of the day if you sell off both minolta and tokina, you wont have a macro left. I also went the route of selling my macros and in the end, got another one. Close focus shots werent happening without dragging tubes around, which was painful. An ultra cheapo macro you can look into is the sigma 50 like I just got, but in the form of quantaray tech 10. I actually bought this one first, but stuck aperture so I had to return. It's the same lens as the sigma I just got. $60 USD for that one. I paid more for extension tubes :-P

I got it to shoot my little crystal ball, hoping 50mm is wide enough to give context on the backgrounds. If successful, I may even replace the FE 55 for landscape shooting

Is the a6300 a 1.5x crop? (or 1.3x or 1.6x?)

Also are there any high IQ pancake lenses in e mount (crop) ?

Finally does the A6300 eye AF work in AFC?

Some test shots during lunch, not bad for an uber cheapo lens, all features work to boot, including AF.

Holy smokes Charlie, they are both awesome! Is that sigma 1:1?

EDIT - Ignore that question I just noticed it says 1:1 on the lens barrel

Nice images.

I had the Sigma 150 and it was an awesome macro, wish I had never sold it.

MF at the zoo isn't ideal, but it isn't as terrible as I thought it would be. I really like the Minolta colors combined with the a7r sensor, can only imagine it on the a7rii.

my understanding is because of cost. It's virtually the same as the voigtlander 40mm. The 40 was made for some budget leica systems, where the 35 was made for the more expensive. Both have the same optics.

The Sony 20 f/2.8 pancake is a decent performer, but not spectacular.

Yes

It's like you and I are exactly on the same page. Same thought process, almost identical lens lineup after we're done with the changes.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.
