Several times in this thread, drilling out the rivets to remove the Elinchrom mount and then adapting the reflector to another system has been mentioned. I'm interested in converting to Balcar mount to put a Fireball on my PCB strobes. In doing this, is there any consideration that the location of the flash tube within the reflector will be different than intended and the resulting reflector won't have the same character as the wonderful light shown in this thread?

Do you think there will be a huge difference between using say the maxilite compared to say AB 18" or the 22" reflector? Maybe someone has some comparisons.

You could use a Kacey PCB<Eli adapter so you won't have to drill it out.. But it is 'sorta' close to the Elinchrom in lighting.

Yes. The 22" is the beauty dish which isn't even close to a similar design to the Maxilite. The same applies to the Omni 18" (which is nothing more thana big straight-sided cone). The only PCB reflector which might be in any way similar to the Maxilite is the 11" Long Throw and even it is a very different shape.

The thickness of the adapter stack would definitely place the flashtube well behind where it would be with the reflector mounted directly to an Elinchrom strobe. Beyond that, Kacey has a somewhat poor record in the last few months for actually giving people their products in a reasonable amount of time a (and sometimes at all). They're absolutely not a company I would trust with my money at this point.

Sure what looking at last few pages at least, don't see anything special. Nothing wrong with the shots but to me any size reflector would have done same.

Dave is selling some of those adapters. Get from him.

Looking at PCB's own output charts VS the thread on POTN's thread on Eli.. It looks like Elinchrom has a half stop more light using a standard 7 inch reflector

There is variation in skill levels represented in this thread, but there are plenty of images which show what this reflector can deliver.

First of all, there isn't much out there which will deliver anywhere near the same amount of power to the subject. There are not many high performance reflectors across various brands (sometimes they are referred to as "sports" reflectors). Of the high performance reflectors, many are not as even in the light they deliver.

Many of the images in this thread are taken in full midday sun with battery powered strobes. You won't get this level of output from most reflectors, especially not at the distances involved.

The quality of light from this reflector used bare is able to create a "sunlight" look. I have used it on an overcast day to look like a sunny day (except that the contrast range is under control, which would not have been the case if it had actually been sunny). This quality is similar to the ProFoto Magnum.

The reflector can also be used with diffuser disks (similar to a silver beauty dish).

I have another reflector with exactly the same dimensions as the maxi light which delivers a different quality of light and the only difference between the two is the quality of the silver finish (the maxi lite is pebbled and delivers a broader, softer light and the maxi spot delivers a narrower, less even beam which is about a stop brighter still).

I'm guessing I have misunderstood what you intended to say...

All true. I also have both Eli reflectors. That's my experience.
