I'm tempted to get the Sony 10-18mm f/4 (external link) lens for the a6300. This lens is designed for APS-C Sensors, so there would be some vignetting at 10mm on the a7rII but it would give the a6300 an equivalent of 15-27mm field of view.

For now, this is just something for me to put on the back burnner to simmer awhile.

Oh, here's what Brian Smith has to say, along with sample images, about using the 10-18mm on an a7r.

I hope this is ok to post in this thread since it's an a7x thread so my apologies if it's not.

I couldn't help it but I ended up ordering the Pentax K-1 after playing with my friends copy and reviewing some of the images that a lot of people are making so far. Dollar for dollar it stands as one of the best value cameras. Wouldn't have preferred going back to a DSLR but this one changed my mind. Combined with the small limited lenses, total weight differnence between a Sony isn't as drastic and price wise it's heavily in favor for the Pentax. As with any camera there are advantages (dual memory card, GPS, better battery, better weather sealing, pixel shift, more direct dials) and disadvantages (heavier, bigger, less AF points, no Eye AF, video is a lot worse) and a lot of comparable features (IBIS). It's not an apples to apples comparison because of camera system type and focal range but a comparison regardless of my intended kits shows (body, 24-70 f/2.8, standard prime, portrait prime, macro lens)

(*new prices on B&H)
a7rII body - $3,200 / 625
24-70GM - $2,200 / 886
55 f/1.8 - $900 / 281
85 f/1.8 Batis - 1,200 / 475
90 Macro - $1,000 / 602

Total - $8,500 / 2,869g

Pentax K-1 - $1,800 / 1010
24-70 2.8 - $1,300 / 787
43 f/1.9 - 550 / 156
77 f/1.8 - 735 / 269g
100 Macro - $380 / 340

Total - $4,765 / 2,562g

You can make the a7rII ultra small with the body and a light prime while the Pentax will always have the extra weight of the body so disadvantage fo the Pentax. But using the 24-70 f/2.8 will most likely be more comfortable on the larger body of the Pentax since the lens is both smaller and lighter but not as nice optically. What I do know is that I might be able to pick up a backup a6300 for those times when I want to go ultra light.

Hope I'm still allowed to post in this thread after this!

you'll be back to the sony camp soon enough :p

keep in mind that the comparison, since not apples to oranges, can vary significantly, such as replacing the FE 55 for FE 50, the 24-70 is basically a tamron, and you can get the canon + adapter for ~7-800 gray market and still have plenty for the adapter.

I got one, it was a perfect lens when I went to Europe on the business trip, great lens for narrow streets architecture.

Not that I can think off. I always send my items fully recorded and insured so they can't say it want received etc. Think I've had a few non payers before but that's it

Of course. I'm still eyeing that a6300 for a small camera for when I just want to go out for a quick stroll. It seems like everything is a Tamron right now, those rumors that the Batis 85 is a Tamron design are strong as well.

I try not to sell on eBay anymore. I'd rather deal with established members of POTN or FM. If you do make sure you send insured with signature confirmation. You can send with tracking info but the receiver can still claim that they never received it or it was lost.

+1

been having little luck on forums, and listing drastically higher on Ebay and selling there. My ebay auctions EASILY more than covers all fees than listing on FM or POTN. Either way, I pack very well, need at least 2 inch padding all directions to file for insurance claim.... I've had to file before, and I got the claim!

Batis 85 != Tamron 85, although the elements are very similar, the tamron 85 is much bigger. The 24-70 is not the best design, 70mm is its kryptonite, the 70-200 on the other hand is extremely optically competent.
