Just ordered an A6000 mainly for an upcoming family trip to the east coast. I don't want to bring my Canon DSLR's along. I prefer a fast prime and long miss my 35L which I sold to make room for the 35Lii, but I never got one. I got the kit lens coming which will be just fine and I'm thinking I may use it mostly for video of my young kids(I rarely video anyway). I really like the FL of 35mm on a full frame. So without going much past 35mm crop or 50mm full frame, which primes should I look at? So far the 3 I'm eyeing are the 35 1.8, 32toiut, and the 28 2.0. I'm open to any brand, I shoot mainly wide open as I enjoy bokeh and I did have a manual focus Zeiss several years back which I really loved the sharpness but not the MF. Thanks in advance and here is a list of my current gear just to give you an idea of what I use if that helps:

5D,5Dii,6D,G15
85L,24-70ii,70-200ii,17-40,15fish

I shoot family portraits, events, and 1-2 weddings a year as a side business/hobby, so people and journalism are my kind of niche.

if the price isn't to much I'd go w/ the Sony 24mm f/1.8 ZA E-Mount Carl Zeiss. That gives you the 35mm FL you like.

Can't go wrong with that. If I didn't also have an a7r I would just get one myself, but I would really like a FF lens I can share between it and the a6000 like the Batis 25. It just stinks that the Batis is 2x the cost (used prices).

Im close to adding the a6300 and also considering what prime for it. I narrowed it down to the following -

Sony 35 1.8 OSS - Advantage of having OSS as body isnt stabilised
Sony Zeiss 24 1.8 - Bit more expensive but decent prices used (This is the one I am going to buy I reckon)
Zeiss Touit 32 - Has noisier AF apparently but IQ looks good

I already own the FE28 but just put it up for sale (although its a great lens, I just replaced it with the Batis 25)

So to answer your question if I was you I would purchase the Zeiss 24 as it gives you 36mm equivelent FOV. I also like 35mm which is why I am going that route too

Thanks for the advice and feedback! I'm starting to agree that the Sony 24 1.8z is the way to go for me. Fortunately I have some time before my trip and I get the camera today. I will do as I used to and just shoot a bunch then review in LR what focal lengths I see the most. While I suspect the wider end, it will at least give me time to learn the camera and see if I want to spend that kind of money on a lens for it, which I assume I probably will. My whole idea with this camera purchase though was to keep the size and costs down, so that's the only driving force that is pushing me towards the 35 1.8 OSS. Thanks again!

Samyang 21mm f1.4 or Sigma 35/1.4 would be my two recommendations and in that order since you like 35mm on FF.

The 35 doesn't make sense if he's shooting for 35mm since it would be 52 on the aps-c body.

I'm aware... which is why I listed the 21mm first... and actually the Sigma is a 30mm anyway, not a 35mm.

Looks like two more great options I'll have to dig into. I think I'll pass on the Samyang due to MF, even though I enjoy a nice MF lens, I prefer AF with this camera setup. I could probably live with a 35mm crop if there is a complete winner out there compared to anything wider. I just prefer the 35mm full frame for tighter indoor family shooting.

Only thing to watch on the sigma crop lenses is that you don't get to use the full abilities of the AF system on the a6000.

After me saying above I was going to buy the Sony 24 for the a6300 I ended up purchasing the 35 2.8 just because it's so small and sharp from wide open but that's obviously 50ish mm effective FOV

Well that probably rules out the Sigma for me too. Interesting take on the 35 2.8. I'll have to do some reading up on it, but did you choose it over the 35 1.8 mainly due to size or is the IQ much better?

I already have the Batis 25 and was planning on using that on the a6300 as well as the a7rii. That was going to give me 36mm on the crop. I then thought whats the point of buying the 24 1.8 in that case when its not much smaller than the batis. Thats what steered me towards the 35 2.8 and I chose the full frame option so that I could use it on the a7rii also (without being in crop mode) as I didnt have a 35mm anymore

Sounds like a perfect strategy to me.

What features would you lose with the Sigma? This is the first I've ever heard of that. I'm not talking about the DSLR lens via an adapter, I'm talking about the new MILC 30/1.4.

Phase detect works i believe but hybrid doesn't (not 100% sure on that bit) but you definitely can't use eye AF in AF-C mode
