Acne breakout? I've had those but not as severe.

Attending Comicon here in Sacramento this weekend. Do most use fill flash for these indoor settings or try to shoot with the widest aperture? I just suck at flash photography and want to refrain from using it.

It really, really varies based on the available lighting and the layout of the convention center. Look for good ambient lighting and you won't need a flash. I'm not familiar with the building that con will be in.

In the atrium and entrance areas, you'll likely have some great diffuse window lighting, big skylights, glass ceilings, etc. A wide aperture to separate subject from background will be perfect. Make sure to look past the subject to minimize background distractions (even if they're out of focus) like brightly colored signs, ugly trash cans, etc. When framing the subject, don't forget that you can move yourself very slightly to significantly change the background framing and hide ugly clutter.

In the dealer-room areas, lighting will almost certainly be terrible: Probably thirty-foot ceilings with overhead can lights or even sodium-vapor lights. You'll need flash to appropriately illuminate the subject. However, these areas are invariably crowded, and stopping the flow of traffic in the aisles for a (probably mediocre) photo is quite frowned upon. It's usually not worth the trouble.

In other areas, bounce flash might be very useful.
