Weather hasn't been cooperating where I live since I bought the other 200 so I'm definitely itching to get out and shoot outdoors. Until then, two shots taken indoors with the manual only 200 f2 ai-s and the other with its auto focusing VR I counterpart.

Headed out for a project and caught one of my daughters out on the porch for a quick pic with her dog, Kirby-Kupcake.

Great flower shots. Did you need to use extension tubes or did you crop the 36mp hard?

Thanks, there were no extension tubes, just cropped the originals.

Thanks. That lens certainly doesn't suffer on that sensor

I actually think the older ai-s version is better suited for the D800'sr 36mp sensor than either of the new versions with vr. For example the vr version is so sharp that when taking portraits, even at f2 the lens is so sharp that it reveals every flaw in the subjects skin. The ai-s however is sharp but doesn't produce an almost over sharpened look to the skin before post processing has started.

Luckily I can choose to grab whichever version I need depending on what I am shooting.

The wife thinks it's a bit to much of a luxury, that I can guarantee we are always having discussions about, lol.

Trying out my new to me and in excellent condition with a shutter count of only 15,576 Nikon D2h body with both of my 200 f2 lens. I'll get an actual live body tests during the weekend.

NOTE: I shot the 200 f2 AI-S at f2.8 due to having trouble focusing at f2. My D800 with the magnifier and split focusing screen definitely makes focusing easier when using the AI-S.

D2H? At 4mp, that'll be a bit different to your D800
