Instead of a battery grip, I use a robust handstrap. It works for me. I decided against battery grips as they become too cumbersome to pack and removing them is inconvenient.

It could also be that the guys who own the big daddy cameras like the 5DSr and the 1DX II really know what the hell they are doing. As they say, the fancy kitchen doesn't cook the meal, you also need a kickass chef.

No, because the 1Dx and 5D3 has been out of 4 years and the photos don't look like that to me. Not wedding photos, not sports photos, not a thing. Do photos with those cameras pop and represent true color, I'm sure they do but each and every photo I see from the 5DSR seems to have better color rendering and better shadow detail, more similar to what my eyes see as I look around. My 5D2 can take some great shots but the look isn't quite as vibrant or colorful, even after work in LR. Again, I really can't put my finger on how to describe the difference.

Lion Pair Grooming- Plettenberg Game Reserve

In a misty rain this Lion pair spent part of the time grooming. I am very pleased with the shots I have gotten from the 5dSR.

The perspective on that second is interesting. At first glance I thought it was a some type of water tower with a small base that gets wider as it goes higher. I still see that for a second as my brain adjusts to the scene.

We just finished moving and I'm ready to buy the Canon 5DSR for portraiture and coast redwood photography.

I would like advice from other photographers about ordering online or ordering and shipping. Often, I've bought lenses from Pro Photo in Portland because prices were fairly competitive. This time, I have my eye on 42nd Street Photo, selling the 5DSR for $2899.00 ... at least today and the past few days.

When ordering from places like this, are signatures or ID required to ensure it stays in the right hands?

One other question, is is better to get the Canon grip vs. a 3rd party battery grip?

Mdvaden, I would suggest local or B&H, having heard some less than glowing comments about 42nd.

The problem with ordering from a place like that is that you may get a gray market camera and not have a Canon USA warranty. if you need best pricng, check the CanonPriceWatch website and go through their street price deals. OR use Greentoe and input a price and see if any companies will accept your offer.

Another vote for Street Prices on CanonPriceWatch. I've bought 2 bodies and one lens through Gordon at CanonPriceWatch and have been very happy with their prices and service.
