This new 70-300 could be a great choice for FF users who want more reach than 70-200 and cannot afford 100-400 (or find it to heavy).

good point, it would of course be an EF mainly for FF users

It's surprising this lens doesn't get more love as it really is phenomenal for the price!

I think it is a very popular lens but various lens threads do not get much action... such is my observation. It is the camera body threads that get the most contributors.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Playing around with this lens. Been contemplating buying the 70-200 f4 is usm, but this lens takes some really nice shots. Oh what to do.

Recently bought this STM version of the lens after having owned and sold the original many years ago.
In taking the shot below I was wedged against a wall for rock solid stability (in effect the same as being tripod mounted), but I found that if I left IS On then the shots were blurry, so I am guessing it doesn't sense a "tripod". I have no issues with IS in normal hand-held use though.
This is the 2016 Christmas light show from The Shard building. There was low cloud, so the search-light beams showed up wonderfully.
