Took this one a couple of weeks ago. This was the best of the bunch (most were NOT good)!

I discovered after the shot was opened in Photoshop that it was actually an HDR... I'd been playing with the settings before putting the camera away a few days earlier and had left this on for one shot only.

I'm pretty pleased with the capture. Although a bit grainy, I managed to get the clouds to show up nicely too.

Great capture and the HDR effect isn't too bad . You can see that in the clouds as being a touch of grunge effect . But the moon itself looks great . This is the kind of natural look with the moon that is really appealing , not blown out but not too dark either . Good job .

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated. I'd like to do more of this sort of thing trying various settings. It's fun!

My latest shot, made with a 6" Newtonian, stacked from 11 shots. As the dynamic range was too high, I did a trick: selectively applied different gamma corrections to three zones (horizontally): 0.50 for the left segment, 0.75 for the middle, and left at 1.0 in the right segment. This way I achieved a decent (and comparable) contrast across the whole disk. (Sort of HDR by hand.)
