Really pleased to get a photo in the garden once again of a ruby tailed wasp - I seem to get one or two every summer now, which I am really pleased about.

This has found a crack between two bricks around 8 inches away from the hole in which my mason bee resides, so the bee now under threat of a parasitic attack..

Philaenus spumarius, the 'Meadow Froghopper', is a species belonging to the family Aphrophoridae. This one was on the leaf of the rhubarb.

The parasitic beauty came out of the hole in the wall when the sun warmed up the brickwork and that gave a better opportunity to get a couple of shots.

There are few colourful bugs in the UK, but this wasp (it won't sting) is surely at the top of the list. I'm lucky that they keep coming back to my garden every year, even if it is just a few visits...

We don't seem to get colourful birds in our city garden, but this little fella sings beautifully at the top of a huge tree a couple of gardens away. The sky was blue with puffy white clouds, which explains the boring background. Disappointing, but I'm loving this 100-400 lens.

The clematis is not properly twined across the fence (Bilbo the kitten chases flies and such into it and that has made the shrub fall) and today I tried to lift it up a bit, closer to where it should be, but it wouldn't stay up - too heavy.

Went back in the house and felt something tickling my skin.

This is the best I could manage, twisting my arm into positions in front of the camera and trying to get it in focus - and it turned out to be a tiny 2mm bark fly walking through the hairs!

This ruby tailed wasp (jewelled wasp some call them) somehow managed to get into the kitchen today, but I trapped it in a tub and opened it up on the wall outside, where it proceeded to start hole hunting!

It eventually went into the brown rawl plug into which it was looking in the first image.
