Question is how do we get the grain out of a high ISO photo?
Drives me nuts!

You do what the old film sports photographers did. Accept the grain/noise.

Digitally you can remove noise through tools such as Lightroom. There may still be noise, but your alternatives are this. Accept a bit of noise or delete/don't take the photo. It's a personal choice. I'll usually accept the noise.

Well, if i shoot at high ISO then i must accept the result with noise/grain, if i use the apps then i just do reduction to a point where i don't damage the result quality, less noise not full removal, but still acceptable.

Many great looking images in this thread. This isn't one of them. 7D2, ISO 16k.

We don't see many owls around the city. The wife spotted him on a fence post surveying the ground. Although I had my 6D there was no way I could get close enough with 400mm to get a worthwhile shot.

LR5 exposure +1.25, sharpening 125, masking 50, luminance NR 75. I found the noise in the background too distracting below 50. There appears to be some vertical banding on the right side of the image and the colours are washed out. The image takes on a water colour appearance with NR above 25. Moderate loss of detail. Uncropped.

I was tempted to try 1/50 or even 1/25 to feed the sensor more light but the probability of getting an ok shot handheld seemed pretty low.

Anyway, for those interested in what a 7D2 can do with dim light at ISO 16,000, here it is.

Yeah, I really don't use NR with that cameras images until I get past ISO50k most of the time. I think the noise it has is very uniform and not usually distracting, so I just let it be :) It actually keeps really good color fidelity up at those high ISO's too, this image just worked better to me in B&W.

I still spend more time using my X-E2 though, which I think also has very usable high ISO images without NR, just not to the ridiculous levels that the a7S achieves

ISO 10000

Not sure why the EXIF above the image says 12800, but the CR2 file in Adobe Bridge shows 10000.

Actually a 3 shot stack. I wanted all the candles in focus. The bokeh is just an added bonus! ISO 6400. NR applied in LR then sent to PS for stacking.
