I also replaced the pancake with this lens - you won't be disappointed! “Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.”

I hear ya. The 40mm is a great lens, and super compact and light! I think the only reason I ended up trading it towards the 35mm was because the STM motor on mine was a step behind the action sometimes at the events I was shooting. “Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.”

I was in the same boat. I had the old 35 and was planning on getting the 35L mark 1. Luckily I was persuaded here and a couple of other places to go with this lens. Super happy with it, you will love it! 2 6D - 35 f1.4L, 135 f2L, 50 f1.8 STM, 85 f1.8

I tested both the 35L version 1 and this lens and liked this lens better. https://instagram.com/shintarodesign

Is the ultrasonic motor of this lens a little more on the noisy side compared with other lens? The copy I got kind of groans a little compared with my 70-200 f2.8. The af is a bit slower as well. Is this normal? https://instagram.com/shintarodesign

Is this normal? Every USM lens I've ever used makes a noise when it focuses. My 35 F2 IS makes a little noise, not sure what to describe it as, but it's nothing that has changed or been out of the ordinary from any other USM lens I have. Mine's AF is blazing, keeps up with my 85 & 200 primes just fine. 70-200 is also blazing fast. I wouldn't expect many lenses to keep up with a 70-200 or any other premier lens that Canon puts their most effort into.
