Update for the corrupted raw files with CFast, just received call from CPS:

- Canon will release firmware in the beginning of July;
- It is targeted to Sandisk CFast (64 & 128), other brand is OK (CPS mentioned no need to update firmware if you are not using Sandisk);
- Due to power usage with Sandisk CFast (so camera knows which brand you insert in?);
- Affect file size larger than 16MB (humm, most of the raw file are over 20MB), don't understand;
- Video file is not affected;

Will keep you updated :)

So far Lexar is A OK.

Last night I copied lot's of (good) Raw file from office with Sandisk CFast, and re-open at home (without using camera). Found couple files were corrupted after copying.

In a previous life I wrote embedded software that dealt with such storage devices, and we had to add numerous workarounds for various brands and models because they didn't quite conform to the relevant spec, reported their identification data incorrectly, or generally had some sort of unusual behaviour. One such example was cheap CF cards claiming they could do all manner of impossible high speed transfer modes, because the vendor had simply copied the settings from what a hard disk would report, without understanding what the fields meant.

It may be that the camera firmware will need to do a specific brand/model check of the card's identity and then behave differently, or it may simply be that there's some incompatibility between the way the card handles certain settings and what the camera does.

I don't know the CFast standard, but perhaps Canon's code for writing an image file (not video) sets the card into a low power mode after writing, but there's an issue whereby it may sleep after 16MB of writes, and they need to change how they bring the interface up and down. I'm speculating - but these sort of things are pretty common in the firmware world.

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

Very nice :) I do favor B&W but this image just begs to have a frame wrapped around it!
