So, basically I am looking for a second body for daily Street photos. I shoot canon and have three lenses. I will never get rid of my Canon gear and I wish they had a really good little Mirrorless to shoot with but since they don't seem to have that I'm stuck going elsewhere. The Fuji XT10 is what I'm looking out right now. The kid is 700 bucks total. I want to be around 40 to 50 mm focal length when all is said and done. Are there any combinations of body and lens I could do to get this? I don't really want a kit lens and I really love the shooting at F1 .4. I don't mind old manual focus lenses but autofocus would be great since I may let friends and family shoot a round with this if I am teaching them or something. Ideally I would be less than $750 into this if possible. I guess since I would be shooting outside that kit lens wouldn't be bad but I do prefer primes

I think the biggest thing that confuses me is all of these different bodies but they all have the same sensor and internals?

What's the best IQ in terms of color/sharpness?
What magnification is the fuji crop sensor?
What body is best from the aps-c lines?

I don't care about a swivel screen or any small ergonomics like that. Honestly I care about quality of the image. That is why the XT 10 has been the one I'm looking out so far it seems to be the most highly regarded

Thanks guys!

Apart from the new xp2 and coming xt2, the remaining field of x series cameras currently in production all have the same sensor and processor: xt1, xt10, xe2, and xe2s. Differences will come down to things like ergonomics, viewfinder functionality, flash sync speed, max native iso, etc. As firmware updates roll out, new functions will be introduced to some models but not others due to hardware limitations. They're all 1.5 crops.

You might want to take advantage of the current rebates, or wait for the xt2 release to see how that effects the used price on the xt1.

Manual lenses are a joy to shoot with features like focus peaking, but you'll be missing out on things like PDAF. So consider adding something like the 18-55mm, 27mm, or 35mm f/2.

I'm shooting the xe2 for the time being. I'll probably get the xp2 or xt2 in coming months, but the xe2 is no slouch. Adorama's had some very good sales on it off-and-on in recent months with and without the 18-55.

I don't need anything too crazy since it will basically be a walking around camera. The 35 millimeter F2 is $300 right now and the xt10 body is 600. That is basically the setup I'm looking to get. I wouldn't mind you but you really don't save much money because of the sales going on. I just wanted to see people's thoughts otherwise. I don't really care too much about the fancy extras that each come with

I own an XT-1 with the 27 & 35 f2 lenses. These both come out at 40.5 or 52.5 mm when looking at FF conversion. This is what you say you want and I can confirm both are excellent lenses. I think you would enjoy either. As for camera XE2, XE2s, or XT10 are your likely best choices depending on ergonomics and what you prefer. From what you have said so far I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Yeah right now I figure since they are all the same sensor which should mean the same image quality I'll probably snag the cheapest one as well as the 27 millimeter F 2.8. I've seen some super nice looking images from it so I might give it a whirl. My biggest concern if it's only $100 difference in the bodies then honestly I'll probably just get the newest one. I don't really want to buy used with these since they are on sale right now for like $75 more than the used price? I honestly think I will just end up getting the xt10

I use my QL17 to shoot street, I have a Canon M and a Sony A7, but I prefer a rangefinder.

I wish I was able to use my film cameras as a second body but sadly that's not an option for me. I have a few laying around but honestly haven't touched them since I bought them. I actually don't think I have shot film in about nine years or so since I was in high school haha.

My 2c:

I have a Canon 6D with every possible lens I need. I also have Sony A7r with a ton of manual lenses, a Zeiss 55mm f/1.8, and a native 28-70mm kit lens.

Love them all and will not part with any.

Recently got a Fuji XT-10 with 35mm f/1.4. Nice lens, but redundant for me. Traded it for a Fuji 18mm f/2 and am very happy. Awesome combo for when I am too lazy to lug around my other stuff. Tiny and weightless. Nice wide angle coverage for street shots. Beautiful Fuji colors and presets. Very happy.

Small street camera for me is either an X-E2 with: the 2/18 or the 2/35

OR

X100s or T if you can afford it, that thing is surprisingly small.

Nick,

Don't knock the 18-55 until you use it and process the files yourself. For a 18-55 kit lens I cannot believe how well it performs and the IQ I can pull out of it.

I've been using my X-T10 with 18-55 combo as well as the 16mm f/1.4 for non critical events. Basically I just use this camera when I want to enjoy photography with no pressures of delivering high IQ (paid events). I find great joy in shooting with the fuji and the IQ just astounds me for such a small package.

I know as a fact that I can never use a fuji for my events work. The AF just doesn't cut it for my style of shooting. Oddly it just meets my needs for my casual shooting. I've missed some photos due to the semi sluggish AF.

If I had to choose just one lens it would be the 24mm equivalent (my 16mm f/1.4) I can shoot a wide variety of photos without feeling totally deficient armed with 1 lens.

Do you shoot with a closed aperture like F8? If so AF speed won't be critical to you at all and any of the lenses will be great as Fuji don't really make an optically bad XF lens. The AF can be a little sluggish in lower light unless you opt for the new camera [X-PRO2 & X-T2]. I sold all my canon gear including my 5D3's when I experienced the 'slow af' 1.2/56 being fast enough on the X-PRO2 for events and such wide open.

I have no problems, in terms of IQ, of delivering images to clients & more importantly either do they. The sharpness and contrast, the colour and 'pop' is all good. Stick your toe in the water and see how you get on, using a Fuji-X camera is a nice thing to do.

^ +1.

imho, a great street camera. I have the x-t1 & too many other bodies, but for a single body - single (fixed) lens? I reach for the x100s. it's hard to beat.

if adding a 2nd body, first choice would be the fuji x-t1 & 56/1.2 combo (compare to EF 85mm/1.2L II). 2nd choice (again for street photography) would be the canon sl1 & 50/1.8 stm or 40/2.8 stm. small and light, low profile rigs in public, & sherpa friendly. these combos feel transparent & work for me. the little sl1 holds its own & then some & it's HER favorite.

we're cursed with an abundance of pleasant, effective choices.

enjoy & have fun.

If you like the normal (50mm on full frame) field of view and love shooting at f1.4, why wouldn't you get the 35mm f1.4?

The 35/f2 is less expensive, weather sealed and slightly smaller (but the size and weight difference is minimal). The 35/2 is optically inferior and requires significant software correction.

None of the Fuji lenses are bad. But if I had a Fuji camera and only one lens, the 35/1.4 is certainly what I would choose.

The 18/2 and 27 you mentioned do have the advantage of being pancake lenses--smallest lenses in the system. And there is a new 23/2 coming out. We haven't seen enough to know how good it is yet.

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).
